This is  true for so many companies today. It has become a commonplace and convenient for companies to outsource many of the non-core functions to contractors who used their own employees to provide the said set of services.

However, the labour laws in India have generally been designed with a view to protect contract workers from exploitation and this has led to regulations that fasten the liability for many contract labour related violations not just on the contarctor but also on the principal employer....

So, how to reduce the outsourcing pain?

Make Payments On Time

idea posted by Kriti Das HR Manager, ANZ Information Technology

Ensure that the full payment of salary is made to the contract workers on the due date. One of your employees should be personally present whenever salary is being distributed in cash. Make sure that the full salary, as due to the contract worker, is paid and his receipt obtained.

The pay sheet should be counter-signed by your employee and a copy kept for your records. Any shortfall in the payment of salaries to the contract workers is liable to be made good by the principle employer.

Yes, certain basics has to be provided to them & better contract  the agencies who r providing PF,ESI, & other felicity to their laborers.  Company can collect their salary sheets from the contractor & can make payment directly to them after necessary deduction towards laborer's  PF contribution, adjust against final payment to contractor.

So that it is a WIN-WIN situation for both the company & contractor. who is finding very difficult to retain right people.  If they are good enough, cos. prefer to absorb them on their role & it is a lookout  duty for contractor.

As some of my friends said, that in their over emotional statement that contract worker should also get all the benefits at par with co.employees, it is bit unacceptable. Company's' are business houses, not charitable institutes, unless they keep their check on  costs it will be rooted out from the Market.

Main Idea is to cost cutting and concentrate on their core functions. Even contractors & facility service cos. off-late paying well & attracting good people.

Treat contract workers no less than your employees

Make sure that there is proper death and accident insurance for your contract workers and that they have access to facilities such as rest rooms, canteen, drinking water, etc. while they are present at your premises. In other words, treat them no less than your employees.

Also, if you have a large number of contractors, do carry out an annual compliance audit to ensure that you have not missed anything.

I agree with Ms  Dipika.

Contract workers have every right to be shown humbleness and courtesy just as the other permanent staff. They are also giving their best in what so ever field they are working in for the growth of the organization.

Thanks for the referral Ms Kirti

Be professional with them too ...

idea posted by Santosh A. Jadhav Sr. Officer Sales

I have found that authorities get very rude or behave very un-professional to contractual people. which is very wrong,

I think they are a smaller version of a growing business, and by interacting them with a professional relation will definitely help them in growing faster -

Being professional means -

1 - Making proper payments and that to on time.

2 - Not treating them as a slave, (ignoring)

3 - giving them a proper plan of action and getting JIT delivery of the work by proper followup,

4 - Also I'll suggest MNC's to provide them with the proper training programs as companies are arranging for their own employees,  after all they also our employees,

5 - grow their awareness towards major factors like Safety, Production techniques, latest technology updates, proper training,

6 - give them proper knowledge about proper investments (small probably) for savings, on personnel levels,

encourage them to increase their circle of work..

Don’t make them Pregnant.

Contractual labours are hired to get “max mazza” with least botheration. This has been so for last few millenniums will remain so for the coming millennium.

Having employee is like a wife, who shed tears for call girls.

Selection & use of contractors

idea posted by KALIYAMOORTHY Oil & Gas Area Coordinator, Undisclosed

Select  the right contractor meeting your requirement based on merits but, not on low quote. This attitude creates numerous problem while handling them at service at later stage. Low quote is to be assessed along with their capability to deliver the required jobs. Particularly, we hear lot many cases, where the biding protocol is fulfilled eventhough, their existance is not there. On paper, it shown as big listed-Contractor but, virtually, on ground they may not be there.

Good hygenic accmodation must be provided with all essential eminities such as drinking water, toilets etc. lLabour dealing must be decent in allthe way, appropriate payment must be made to the labour that also in time . Because it full fills their basic needs . Delayed payment will affect like delayed aid to a sick patient .
