Take the examples of EVM (Electronic Voting Machine), Biometric/Smart card system for attendance/entry, UID, Credit/Debit Card, Centralised Banking, online Train/Flight Reservation etc. They all made hassle free process in their respective areas. In the same pattern we can adopt technology to make the processes simpler like; voting by mobile phone (like mobile banking), applying online for Driving License or Ration Card etc, payment of all bills directly from network linked salary, complaints handling, government vs citizen interaction, the list can be very long. In most of the developed countries most of them are already being used. This will minimize human interaction and movement with the government offices and unauthorized agents too, and thereby the corruption also. So, all the engineering professionals, take the charge and make the India happy. |

Induction of technology in every institution and department to supplement and compliment existing systems are the right solution to ensure efficiency, avoidance of delays and removal of corruption.
There are already more than enough systems and regulation are in place in every sphere; but these are not being used or implemented effectively.
There is systemic failures in every field as we are yet to make use of IT to garner the systems fully.
There are solutions to overcome delay in judiciary, to reduce rail accidents, to deter terrorist activities, to ensure efficiency in work place, to prevent corruption, to empower financial inclusion of people in the lower economic strata with non-banking services, to improve PDS etc.etc. with the help of technology.
In public offices and other departments, every job can be broken down and made key responsible tasks of each official from Gr.4 to Ministers and fed into computers for its day today, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual evaluation.
Salary shall be drawn only based on the percentage of performance. Perks and promotions shall be based on annual performance report generated by these computers.
Every ones persons assets, income and expenditure shall be monitored and accounted to find any involvement in corruption and favoritism. Then we will not require Lok Pals and the Anna Hazares.
Indian Railways launches mobile ticketing application and SMS to be used as ticket.
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) is in the process of introducing Biometric Cards for all prepaid taxis to improve the security of passengers.

If we punish the corrupt in a harsher manner, then somewhat the corrupt minds may be afraid of wrongdoings. Perhaps this is the only proven way worldwide. We can't avoid it but definitely control it.

It is true that we need right punishment procedure, but it is related to the judiciary system.

It is everybody's problem. The person who is taking bribe is bribing someone. It is cyclical. Politicians bribing the people to get votes, People are bribing the netas to get their works done. Officer bribing the politicians to get good postings. People are bribing the officials. People want their work done immediately and wetting the hands of the officers and their staff. A priest in a temple is demanding bribe to perform pooja and allowing the devotee to have darshan of the deity. It reached an extent that colleagues are being harassed to get bribes. In early years of my career I represented for departmental transfer and my representation need to be forwarded from my department to the Dist. Collector. One of my senior colleagues who was the custodian of a particular job, need to attend to this. He demanded me bribe. When I was reluctant to pay he simply thrown away my application to dust bin. That is the situation. Unless the mindset changes, nothing could kill the demon of corruption.

It is true that honesty should be the part of our culture. This will happen when we will learn to respect the honesty. Thanks.
@Hemchandra, yes it is possible. Andhra Pradesh is testing this method. But, people are trying hard to fail it. @ Santosh Kumar, thank you very much. If you not mistaken me, Municipalities are one of the top 10 most corrupt Govt. offices in India. I appreciate your honesty. Thank you very much
If we can do a complicated process like student's counseling with the help of software, why not transfer and promotion with the logical software solutions?

Well no hard and fast rule or severest of the punishments can eradicate corruption in our country until and unless there is an active involvement of our political heroes.....

our politicians are the couse of curruptions, once they are ellected they do whatever they think. They nust be checked by laws and or otherwise no way.
Iayanta I fully agree with your point of view on the subject.

Homer in 'Illyad' states 'during the fight between Trojans and the Greeks, sometimes the opponents resort to gamble and someone wins, then the King comes over and deprives the winner of his prize, his duty is only to see that his subjects are not tormented by extreame power and the they don't ask for what is due to them'.
Human life if not planned or worked out is like that of animals that live on trees. So one has to work and plan to lead a hopeful and worthy life.
Wundt and James Williams the great German and American philosphers came to the conclusion that there is nothing called 'truth' visible anywhere and so one has no choice other than be 'pragmatic' in ones action meaning everything one does.
If we follow Homerian dicta properly and allow the philosophies to be incorporated in our culture as to be executed on daily basis, we will be more conscious in our efforts not to lead the life of animals on trees and corruption so will not be a necessity to lead ones life.

Complete Homerian dictum on predicament of Human life. "During the Trojan-Greek wars, the opponents in between sometimes resorted to gambling and some one always won then the king will appear and deprive the winner of the prize because his duty ended in making sure that none of his subjects is tormented by extreame power and they don't ask for what is due to them". "To maintain public policy the Greeks sent their citizen to temples and the soldiers fought valiantly and gave their life to maintain it". Now please read how to face human predicament from my above post.
It is a right step (Lokpal bill) at right time.

It has finite number of solution and the most appropriate one is no solution. If all will continuosly talk about the issue for the lifetime, it will still be very less to find the solution.

Corruption germinates from the fact that we, the people, want to bypass the set procedure to obtain something fast. When the "takers" found the list of "givers" swelling beyond proportions, as many of us prefer short-cuts everywhere, they made it a practice. OLD HABITS DIE HARD! Someone mentioned an analogy to arrest corruption, i.e. a person walks into a small hotel finds a pointing Veg this way and Non-veg, the other way, he walks into Veg room, there he finds another board, cash payment this way, and credit the other way. He walks into the "credit" room where he encounters another board, that pointed him to the "Exit" gate! Most of us belong to the "credit" category, we boldly object to the corruption, when a situation comes on to us, we adopt all short-cuts! Railways legitimised the corrupt practices by implementing "TATKAL", Passport Office also implemented "TATKAL", why not other departments legitimise short-cuts with more money, at least the amount collected would go to government coffers, rather than the pockets of touts!

Right. If the system and procedures are simple there will be no need to pay for shortcuts. But instead of making systems and procedures simpler, our bureaucrats and politicians make it more complicated. So the technology could be a better solution like Tatkal seva in Train and Passport offices. Thanks for your idea.

Corruption is worse than a plague.
The only thing our coountry lacks in the implimentation of existing law despite we are echoing for a lok pal bill.
Our government should create a seperate autonomus agency to implicate such person/agencies involve in corruption to take them on task under the direct supervision of judiciary on fast track.
Until such provisions are made we will keep tolerating such act of corruption that are & will impede the progress of our country directly and indirectly.

Yes. It is possible with the help of technology.

Parents should build the values in their wards, Teachers should strengthen it and education should make it strong then only corruption will come down.

We are living in democratic country but still not united. Many experts has given great ideas. But almost all ideas relates to bribe. Is bribe the only way of corruption? It shows only the way of corruption for middle class or upper level population. What about population B.P.L. ? They can't able to use any technology or don't have any other awareness about all matters. Corruption is there :- A lot of budget passed by Govt state/center for the development for those people, many charitable org are there, many schemes i.e. free food, clothes etc etc are running for those population. But i thing less than 5% of total allotted amount reaching to them. Where is rest amount? Is it not part of corruption? Argue by Nilesh jain is accurate that "Do we really want to get it solved"?. Unity is required , time is required. But we don't want to waste our precious time on all this things. We always things that WHY I? WHY NOT OTHERS? One single person can't do anything but a Mob can do any thing. According to me whenever we Indians work or do action in unity then it will be the last day for any national problem........ |

Making it official shall turn the tables on the corrupt. Because they become accountable in the eye of the law. Imagine greasing the palms of an RTO official for your driving license without even taking the test and getting a receipt for the transaction with which the corrupt official can be traced and tracked down.
In some countries in europe - prostitution is legal and has helped in bringing down sex related crimes a great deal. Same also with corruption !

It is also possible to make agents (as in many departments) to perform such activities or give individual incentives to employees. It is proved that personal incentive is more effective than group incentive. However, it is related to HR policies of the concern departments in relation with human behavioral science.

Thanks,Sulagna for referral. The corruption has become synonymous only with monitory benefit, whereas, it has taken its root so deep, that if it is uprooted, the whole society will get affected.Succinctly, the system of governance should be so devised that every one fair amount of treatment every where in every day life,it is a 'utopia'. but once it is achieved the,we will be able to call ourselves a society free from all vices.

System automation is also a technology based solution.
A smart idea is enough to do that. We can learn from children with smart and out of the box ideas in cover story of "The Week", July 17.
Don't loose the hope. Think positive, be positive.
Yes. There are countless modes and methods of using technology for such purposes.

What ever the process that is carried in and out should be transparent and it should be known to the public.........

The anti corruption crusade has to start first in schools:
1). Mass or individual copying of home work has to stop
2). Mass or individual copying/cheating on examinations has to stop
3). Manipulating test results by students, teachers and parents has to stop
4). Giving marks/points/grade out of fear and favor by teachers/professors has to stop
These are the first steps to stop corruption in this country.
