I mean there are several cities in India which are badly planned, there are houses where a wide road should be and there are roads where there should not be, and the connectivity to the city interms of transportation is all congested with sudden growth or sudden influx of population to the city from else where and there is chaos everywhere with so much of vehicle population and suddenly the city feels all congested and we start to curse the people who planned this city.

Bangalore Urban regeneration

idea posted by Pragya Kothari Construction-Heavy, DLF

Though recently it was said that it was the best city in India for expats, but there is still long catching up for the city to do..

The city has become infact City of humps. Lot off power cut. No better roads. No better garbage collection & management. No better sewage. Total traffic. Peoples will not follow traffic rules. They will ride on food path. Traffic police just concentrating on collecting money. BMTC buses always stop beyond or after the busstop. Posters pasted every corner of the city. Even trees are not left, they occupied by PG for ladies posters. (As like ITPL road). Autowallas / Cabs never follow any kind of rules.

1. The Bangalore climate is changing, instead of cutting of trees in the name of development why not plant more to make city much cooler place to live.

2. Widening of roads, as the roads in this city are very narrow, as it did not expect so much development so soon.

3. Better connectivity interms of Metro and demolishing places where there is no proper road which has to be there in the first place.

4. More parks for people to spend time.

5. Rampant Regionalism, I guess its the case in every other city, it will be  very difficult for people who come from outside to understand things in Local language, where from bus to sign boards will be in local language, I don't know how the city is best for the expats, untill they learn the local language.

These are some points which Bangalore city needs to consider for a smooth living....so what about your city how Urban regeneration should happen...

Every thing is beautifully mentioned. The planning and development should include green technologies for new areas and satellite towns and develop a strong metro culture in the core area of the city. There should be responsible officers to report any kind of deviations for immediate action at the beginning of such works so that the situation like Delhi will not rise in future in other cities.

Development of sattelite cities.

idea posted by malladi madhukumar AGM -MKTG, Andhra Cements Ltd

Cities are getting overcrowded. There is expected to be increase of 10% increase in every city or town"s population.

Under these circumstances best option will be establishing sattelite cities in four corners of the cities so that it lead to deconjection.

Provision of sanitation, raods, commuting facilities, electrification can lead to diverion of inflow of population leading to better living.

In view of the fact that by 2015  55% population is expected to be urban planned towns, sattelite towns etc., should be developed with more urgency.

Good idea Mr.Malladi Madhukumar.

But you know the negative side of it, the lands used for cultivation and agriculture purposes have been converted into flat promotions which gives, may be, several million/billion and one fine morning we will be forced to buy the vegetables and provisions at several hundred rupees per kg.

I am in total agreement with Malladi on the subject. The urbanisation will grow every day. Hence the satilite towns are important since our main cities are bursting at the seems in fact all of them countrywide.

So further infrastructure are needed and to be created as fast as possible. Unfortunately in our country there are very less number of mega cities and everybody try to get settle in one or the other as per the proximity of there original place of belonging hence the urgency.

It is a good idea. Government and private builders should work in this direction.

Plan development of areas at least 100 km within radious

idea posted by Mohammad Bakhsh Project Leader/Managing Consultant, Freelancer

The migration of population will continue in search of greener pastures. The traffice congestion can not be stopped unless minimum facilities of every day need are available in their their own areas. The voulme of traffic is increasing becauseof  newly acquired prosperity and not by the migratory people. On the  contrary they are contributing to the development of the areas where they are dwelling.

Resource management plan

idea posted by aniruddha Construction-Specialty, contech

Most developed cities in world have a comprehensive resouce management plan of there own. These plans are structured for next 20 to 30 years. The city is divided into different zones depending on the original business district and proximity to various activities

Infrastructure network which include public transport, stromwater & sanitation network are built in conjunction to the rsource management plans. Every five year plan is part of greater schemes of things.

Refer www.mercer.com/qualityofliving for things looked at while judging cities worldwide. Sydney is at 10th place in the list. Most of the developing Indian metros are comparable to Sydney. We should look at what measure they have taken .

Whle comparing working in various countries I have realised that we spend less time planning things and more time building it. While in all developed countries it is other way round.

There is no point getting annoyed about autos drivers and taxis for their irrational behaviour. We should work strengthening the framework and every thing will follow.

Knowledge & education is not a secret anymore only will to change things can make wonders.

Sustainable Development

idea posted by Anjali Bhatia Construction-Heavy, Sobha Developers

When I say sustainable development, it means that each and every individual has to follow the rules & norms that promote sustainable environment where nature & civilization can flourish together.

Agreed that cities have become overcrowded, more polluted, losing greenery, etc. ; all this is due to our negligence. We think that whatever good wee can get just collect it & let others die....who cares man??

So, change in attitude is required to see something really happening..

Most cities are becoming slums.

With building byelaws remaining in Paper and governments briinging in policies like Akrama-Sakrama to legealise illigal constructions, and when we do not think beyond providing 12m-18 m Roads and allow foot paths to be used as show cases of shopkeepers and allow more cars and inadequate and bad public transport how can we think of urban redevelopment. It is another scheme to allow the rich to snach a portion of tax payers money.
