Reduction in Price

idea posted by sumitra dutta Consultant, XYZ

Price will be the main constrain for people to go for Windows 7. The new OS seems costlier for the average Indian. And even there are pirated versions of Windows 7 available in the market for Rs.100 per CD. So Microsoft should consider reducing the price, if it wants to be successful in Indian market.

What space that we are discussing here - retail or corporate? In retail space, price is the ruler in indian markets. Frankly speaking, if we discount OEM licenses, how many retail customers buy OS license in India? The number will improve only if MS license reduce price - may be they reduce license for basic version to match OEM/Volume license fees.

As far as corporate world goes, price will not be a major hurdle but stability of windows 7 and support of windows XP. Corporate will adopt windows 7 slowly - one way by accumulating OEM licenses as h/w are upgraded. I don't see complete adoption (by migrating completely using volume licenses).

I believe that the price beyond reach of a user capacity leads user to buy pirated OS. In India, where people are more price conscious; you cannot demand premium price to pay for the Product, when same product can be avail for just 1% of the original product price.

In India, People are tending to look for alternatives to buy their needs. Microsoft has to understand Indian tendency before deciding on the price.

No Company can sell their items without profit.

Reduction in price is comparative to India market.

Better to provide multiple feature with the same costing can attract more people.

Like Microsoft package of Windows 7 + Office at the cost of OS will work

Add new features and more comfortable working

idea posted by Radhakrishna Marar Business Analyst, Oracle

Windows 7 should be more easily accessible, more comfortable to work with than all previous versions of windows. It should provide more features with the previous versions did not have and shouldn't have more system requirements. With all these features, it can have more popular...

The main thing is it's better performance than MS Windows Vista. As Windows XP is still better everybody knows that as everybody is accessing/using since 8 years. But for Windows 7, if you spend 2 months of time with it, you will be learn a lot things. And also you can still use Windows XP mode in that to get application issues short out. I beleive this could be best os of Microsoft since last all. All the best.

Yup, obviously added new features with more graphical, more musical with fantastic entertainment. Also we should not that virtualization is the key feature with MS Windows Server 2008 R2......You know there is no need to set VPN now, access your data from anywhere in the world with just one dedicated/live IP Address. Yes this is still better than Remote Desktop connection. You can straight acces your server based in your home country from other country or anywhere in the world. You just need broadband internet acces that's all. You can work like you are working in your office.

All the new MS operating systems will take time for settle down and user friendly, If you look back while XP was introduced, not everybody was comfortable with XP while using Windows 98. So it is upto microsoft how fast they are upgrading the Windows 7.

Add your argument:

Higher secuirity systems

idea posted by Mohit Aggarwal Sales/BD Manager, Oracle

It has been normally seen that Windows products are very weak in preventing online viruses but are very easily prevented by other operating systems like Linux. If Windows works on these problem, its sales will increase among the corporates also..

Performance of the OS with old technologies

idea posted by Hithendra Kumar Ramamurthy Consultant - Information Risk Assurance Services, Capgemini Business Services India Ltd

Along with the price of the OS and the added features it can deliver, we also need to consider the performance of the OS in an existing machine. Would an average Indian buyer upgarde to a better system to make the new OS work as claimed by Microsoft?

Generally we have found that Windows supports language features with fonts.

Better if it can introduce multilingual support to Indian Languages like other languages, then it would be more useful to India.

Plus if Microsoft can provide some AddOn pack with OS like, MS Office bundle in the same price, can attract more ppl

Though India is highest in Population and in IT; surprisingly most of the softwares used in India doesn’t has Indian languages support, though now days u can find Indian language support for some softwares but they are in negligible percentage in the whole market share. Till this date I know people who struggle with PC in English language. They look for OS in their language.

I believe providing them features in Indian language; Microsoft can attract more people to use their OS.
