How many women were in your class when you were at IIT? Not much more than you can count on your fingers, right? Gender ratio has always bee an issue for the IIT's in India.

Many laws have passed to improve the situation but nothing has happened. Can they do it is still a big question.

Decrease Application Fees

idea posted by Rajat Malhotra CTO TooStep

In my opinion IIT's should reduce the application fess so that it encourages lot of girls to apply for the IIT exams. So, when the applications are more there are chances that more girls will get into the IIT.

So, this could be good move to improve the gender crisis.

Make The Road Easy

To make-up the gender ratio issue IIT's should make the road easy for the girls. Girls should be given a little relaxation in the selection process. This will ensure that more girls get chance to study in the IIT's & also there will be a healthy study environment.

But, don't take the idea in the other way, it will ensured that IIT get the bright brains amongst the girls population

You are right Rajat.....decreasing application fees could be one way another way could be to increase awareness that its not only the boy thing. IIT's are also open for girls & they are compared equal to boys.

Thus, awareness could play a vital role in  motivating girls to come forward and take the entrance exams.

IIT's should show & make others aware what are the achievements girls have achieved. They should make sure that candidate passing out should help in spreading the word that girls are equal to boys & they can also crack the nut.

Introduce Courses that girls want

I'm not an IITian but it seems obvious to me that --its all about demand-supply ratio. I studied sociology and the ratio was like 20:1 in favor of girls.

Surely, the subjects in high demand among girls can be identified by the management. If there is a big demand among girls to study certain subjects then a call has to be taken about which of those subjects can be introduced. Thereafter, examinations relevant to those courses have to be introduced for induction of the students. Voila, the demand will take care of the ratio.
