I could say that there is no denying to the fact that certain media messages are detrimental to our society. We need to realize that although media is a reflection of the society we live in but at times, the media needs to do much more than reflect the surroundings - it has to exaggerate, sensationalize and at times even trivialize the matters of utmost importance to make way for entertainment.

Dear Kavitha, I do not agree with you. The job of press is to be a voice of voice less and work for people and not to work for entertainment. Entertainment is done by a different industry not by Press. However, you may say the ad worthiness ( it is the frequently used in media world~ while referring to poorer sections as not ad worthy) is more important than the people.

Let me give you some statistics. The largest number of deaths in the human history(please remember in human history) has happened in our country by way of suicides by farmers. The count crossed 2,00,000 mark way back two years. Do you know how many journalists covered the event? Just one+one. It is done by P.Sainath of The Hindu. The plight of farmers is never given the importance that it required. Do you know how many accredited journalists ( remember accredited means many of their perks are paid by Government) covered the event of Fashion Show in Mumbai. Four hundred for one week to show poorly clad women on TVs. Paid news-celebrity journalists working for lobbyists hoodwinking gullible public as their mouth pieces. Please read any of the Times of India news paper. How many times you will see poorly clad women as shown at different places which is not relevant catering to the basal needs of people. We are in the grips of crony capitalism which India can ill afford.

Outburst of Unfortunate Incidents

Yes it affects a lot, media creates celebrities; it creates idols - celebrities who thrive on fans, followers, and groupies! When we say a certain type of music or a certain genre of movies is popular, it means a large number of people are following an ideology or a concept, which lies at the heart of that song or the movie. One of the most striking examples in this case would have to be the popularity of violent and abusive rap songs amongst teenagers. The glorification of violence, drug abuse and other unhealthy habits has a major role in the outburst of unfortunate incidents where children have gotten extremely violent and out of control.
