The homepage is the first thing visitor sets eyes on when he/she reaches the website. There should not be any unnecessary pop ups which will make the visitor go to other sites. The visitor should be given an easy and effortless route with uncomplicated set of choices. It will make the visitor feel comfortable using the website. The user should not feel it as a waste of their time and energy while using the website, which will make them go to other sites which offer good information with fewer complications. |

Whatever you want to say here, crispy content, SEO, development tools, navigation, CMS, nice home page, it's not enough. And I want to add some more like forums, blogs, comments, ratings, etc. And not to forget the connections to Facebook, Twitter and more social media connections. But all of that does not matter! Practice is that many websites lack those elements, but they are very successful. And then there are websites, which contain all the elements mentioned here, and they fail! What makes a website successful or at least not a failure? Basic marketing! You need to supply content (in any form) to the visitors of your website, which makes them to come at the first place and to make them so interested that they come back. How do you do that? By knowing your products and services you offer the visitors of your website and know your visitors. You must or suppose to know how they react and what they want. If you don't know, don't make the website or be prepared for a long time of learning. What I'm saying here is not something complicated, it is the knowledge what all sales people have. You can even compare your website with a normal conventional shop, because the principles are the same. |

You can test if your site implemented the basic marketing principles. Go to a Google or Yahoo user group and add a post, which declares something outrageous or extremely interesting, which is related to your website and supply of course the URL. You will receive a lot of traffic coming to your site and study its behavior. When people come and stay on your site less then a minute and don't come back, your site is a failure; better remove it and put something simple on its place. When they stay longer and they come back, you are on your way to make it successful.

see some (big) sites today where you just cannot find what you know should be there, or worse, find it, then cannot remember how you got there. Likewise links should be correctly named, if it says product details i don't wish to get 90% review and 10% information. In keeping with point 2 above, you should know what is of value on your site, and direct someone there effortlessly

I am agree with Mr.Ashok on the consistent transparent navigation. As per my opinion there are many hidden things with many websites, they are not interested in do the transparent deals, i am not sure but there is many factor behind this. Many website creator thought that all the users are fullish and they not capable enough to find out the loophole and fraud information.

Hi Sameer, good food for thought. I would agree with your suggestion and the suggestion shared by persons on this Page. Just to add to it we need to have SEO for both on-page and off-page. However you make your website perfect, you must keep a track of the status daily. Check its alexa rank, and also use google analytics. See if the traffic is going up or down, if i is going down use SEO and Social Media Marketing to gain maximum visibility and traffic.
