Almost all working professionals aim at proving themselves and excelling in their professional careers. When we are always keeping our fingers crossed for a quick promotion, a steep hike in pay or a fast growth in our career graph, Its time for some sincere and focused action. So I would like to know from you people, in what different ways, can we perform better in our jobs?Almost all working professionals aim at proving themselves and excelling in their professional careers. Organize your work space & yourself

idea posted by Sonam Kapoor Software Developer, IBM

Keep your files, papers and documents in order to avoid unnecessary clutter and delays. Maintain a To-Do list for the day / week and make sure to enter tasks in their order of priority.

I agree to all the ideas... And there would be lots of ideas to list out...

But the important thing I learned in this industry is "Show off the results of whatever work you do (If possible exaggerate your effort)". Only this will help you to be noticed and get admired in the company.

If this discussion is about performing our tasks in better and efficient way, I agree to all ideas except 2nd... :)

Work Diligently

idea posted by Raghu Kastury Principal Consultant & Head of Strategic Business Unit - Retail & Distribution, Sundaram Infotech Solutions Limited

There is only one way to perform better in our jobs. That is working diligently. However, one has to work "diligently" according to your boss's definition of "Diligence" and not your own.

usually we all make a mistake by working diligently to our own definition or our own standard, but expect the reaction or appreciation from the boss.

Why this diligence thing differs from your boss to you? That is because boss has more information about the organization, about the work that you assigned to you and others' perception about you and your style of working, than you have. As a result, your boss will set a standard for you and anything below that will not be appreciated. If your standard is much better than your boss sets for you, even that may not have great results some times.

So you have to get to know your boss's requirements of diligence and work accordingly.

Dear Raghu,

you mean to say just follow your boss.. if he/she is doing soothing wrong.. soothing which is not acceptable for other peers... which is only for his benefits…. Some boss take credit for his/her subordinate’s work..

we do agree boss has more information about the organization, about the work …. but if boss will communicate to his subordinate in better way and freely.. then subordinate will be more creative …

you are talking about to think in box…. Which has been made by boss.. but a person can do better and best when he has freedom to think … when he/she will start thinking out of box….

This is my opinion .. it may differ from individuals…

Own Responsibility - Offer NO EXCUSES

idea posted by Makrand Bhave Marketing & MICE, WIZCRAFT International

I would do this constantly. Own up to my responsibilities and try and perform them to the best and OFFER NO EXCUSES for any lapses. By doing this I am constantly challenging my own sensibilitites and pushing myself that notch higher to set my own standards at a higher place day in and out!! It is like a self assesment program that helps me evaluate myself and my performance!!

Good debate Sonam :))

Good idea Mr. Makrand to perform better we should never give excuse.

And Shishir good point, that we should not wait till someone considers us the best. I agree with you. We should act as a leader even though we don't posses that title. Then we will be able to perform better.

i would like to add, as if we are not waiting for someone to consider the best of us. we should show it to them.now a days there is no competition in jobs when u are in the industry all are treated equal, so a lot of caliber is left only inside of the employees and they can not deliver it back.so, the organisation heads should worj out and make it a better place for every employee to work and give its best in that field where he/she can do the most.

so, work more hard as you wil be definitely lacking some where and if u have done your best thn be confident u wil definitly get the reward......!!!!!!!!!

Instead of falling prey to jealousies, try to learn from the successes and achievements of others. Analyze what is different about their approach towards work and gain inspiration from them.Instead of falling prey to jealousies, try to learn from the successes and achievements of others. Well, i feel the same that besides concentrating on others ,it will be much better if you focus more on ur work, and you have a methodology in mind to acheive your goals and the dedication to move an extra mile for  their successful accomplishment.

Learn from your mistakes -lessons learnt

idea posted by Devi Kaladeen Audit Manager, Health Sector Development Unit

If you are an excellent worker, you can still improve by keeping up to date with modern technology. On the other hand if you have not been doing too well, then it is time to take another approach and try to improve on your performance.  You will need to look back at your shortfall and seek advice/guidance from your superiors on how to improve. In some cases you need to get training and to some extent further your studies. An important factor to perform better in your job will be dedication and appreciation of the job you do. If there is no job satisfaction then you will not be able to do a good job.

Walk that extra mile...!

idea posted by Satwinder Singh Program Manager, Confidential

Take note of daily activites, ToDo lists, Gantt charts, etc to follow what exactly you need to cover this month...

You can perform better once you are focused on your targets and achieve 100% each month... followed by the Initiatives you are trying to take.. A new innovation.. or may be a small change which can bring some improvement into the current ways of doing things...

Once you walk that extra mile.. you'll feel that you have not only performed better but brought excellence to the system...!!

I beleive the first best way to perform better in our job is to work on what we love.

If thats not possible, the second best way to perform better is to love what we work on.

Work as it is your own company

idea posted by Akhilesh Kumar HR Officer, Hayat Communications

When you start thinking that the work which you are doing is for your company then from that day we can perform better in our jobs.. we should not think this is comapany work .. we should think this is our work and it has to do for ourselves... once u start thinking you will start thinking for new idea as what to do for best... for example  the person who is running his own venture they always thing how to do better to grow...

The work which we are doing at job will develop our skill, our knowledge etc then why not we think out of box to improve ourselves...
