1. Fight corruption and erradicate it completely. Media should assist with hidden cameras etc. 2. Children should be taught at School level to be Patriotic citizens. This can be achieved by 3. including moral stories in their curriculum. 4. Ban and fight all extreme organisations like the Naxals/Maoists. 5. Religious fanatics should be imprisoned. There is no place for them in a secular State. 6. Get modern weopens for our soldiers and policemen to fight crime. 8. Politicians should not be allowed to do crime hiding behind political ideologies. Hope someone takes cues from Ideas given by people. May all those souls rest in peace....

For a vast & populous country like ours, its not possible to bring changes in our system overnight, even a period of 365 days is little considering the resources we have & the security we need. But the positive thing is that something has been done & we know now much has to be done. Most important change what I feel is that we all now have a rejuvenated spirit & awareness to fight this evil & this I think, is the real tribute to the martyrs. !!!! JAI HIND !!!!! |

Frustrated, what we should do now ???
We might have the custody of some 'instruments' used to destabilize our nation & we can burn them alive or hang them at any carrefour. What will be the repercussions?
These 'instruments' will prove to be new tools for the Akas sitting there (as they will be projected as heroes amongst the fanatics, & that should not happen) against whom we are unable to take actions due to one or other reasons.
Also, can there be a war between two nuclear states to wipe of the roots, without which there can be no stoppage of poisonous buddings, & that too when we do not know for sure that who holds the nuclear keys?
America, with its all military might & dollars still grappling with the same fanatics in Iraq, Afghanistan or Pak with no concrete results yet, except for the fact that there's no 9/11 again & it's also noticeable that except for this unfortunate incident it was always a safe haven in the world.
Democracy, justice etc you may find these words to be a part of Mr M. K. Gandhi's dictionary but the fact is there are no other viable methods right now.
We have to have take into the confidence the world with a very pragmatic & not an aggressive approach, especially the democratic government & the fraction of civilized people on the other side to find a lasting solution of the problems.
Yes, indeed we should step up our security & safety measures with all resources that we have or could arrange, find & punish people responsible within our country without fail & at the very earliest & make such a system where there is someone answerable, whosoever may be, for such lapses.
And last but not the least, how many of us wants to join politics, army etc overlooking how muddy or low paying jobs they are ????
It's through rejuvenated spirit & more awareness a system can be reformed in an evolutionary way.because awareness demands inner consciousness first then outer
consciuosness

Thats what i would like to see!! I think its quite a far fetched idea. We can never have a proactive Govt so that is out completely. Alert Public (including me). have no time to look at their own house holds, where would they find time to look at things around them which may or may not be suspicious??? But this needs to be done. Thanks for the referral!

Well, I am aware that I will in probability will be labelled as sceptic. Or pessimistic. or fashionably both. But to be honest I m sick of this farce that is being played out in Mumbai and in India in the name of 26/11. It is pathetic. Insultingly embarrassing. I m sorry but I honestly don't think that talking about goody goody things like spirit n luighting the candles n writing on the wall, in any way, helping to the cause or reassuaging? I m feeling hopelessly frustrated. In cotemporary political terms, we are being rediculous in the eys of the world. It is as pathetically embrassing like our Home Minister keep sensding some proof after proof to Pakistan to accept and act and Pakistan keeps snubbing.....we have been proved to be bunch of jokers in the eyes of international communcity.
One year after such a devastating tregedy. 365 days when an elaborate, well-thought out strtegic attack was mounted on India's commerical capital with almost inhuman efficiency....what have we done...?what?
Do we really believe that lighting some candles will in any way console the lighting of the funeral pyres of hundreds of people?
Writing on the wall symbolically will erase the writing on the wall that we can do nothing but show some stupid hopeless gestures of solidarity?
Prime Minister keeps warning us that we shud be prepared for such attacks again in future as intellgence agencies have sounded alerts that such attacks can happen again anytime....
Home Minster admits that it cannot be stopped.....
The person who had attackked Indian democracy n parliament is still living lavishly under fool-proof security at out expenses even after all the legal options have been exhasted......
Kasab is still there................
N we have elected the same governemnts and the same bueaocracy is still around, so much so that Congress party claims that we r back in power becoz, people did not hold us responsible for such heneious crime to take place n the mockery we made of our own security....
Sorry.................it makes absolutely no sense....
We r just trying to take nap until an another ruthless wake-up call is sounded......
Thats a good one Shiuli!!
Indeed, Audit is such an integral and necessary part of the Govt actions that it needs to be monitored. Monitored by private auitors. They would not only bring the mistakes and errors to the fore but also maybe try and salivate the Govt think tanks (read RBI, Finance Ministry, HRD Ministry etc) to really think hard and try to implement newer ideas and even adopt certain ways from across the borders that would keep the custodians of the government in check!!
The lower strata of employees need to be kept in check and this would be a sure fire way of doing it!! Thanks for asking this question and bringing in a new dimension of thought Shiuli. And you are boringly interesting in your comment here :D
Ok to answer your questions Makrand and Alka, another counter question, after 62 years of Independence did the learned class or the media ever raise the question to the functional govt’ to ask for a audit report?
I’m sorry if I’m becoming a bit of a bore on the subject of democracy. But I am wondering what exactly does it mean? When-ever questions are raised from the functional govt’ to know there functioning, soon we find the cause and effect of the intolerance inherent in Indian society and about the danger posed to free expression by the willingness of mobs to burn books, destroy structures and set up slack commisisions.
Our problem in India is that we have no standards, no barriers and no sense of what is acceptable and what is not. Instead, each time the issue erupts, we engage in the same meaningless, finger-pointing debates, and call each other names. No principles are ever discussed. No guidelines are drawn up. No balance is reached.

It is far from convinced that India has learnt lesson from the attack and has made a paradigm shift in the strategies. There are still many states in the Country which do not have appropriate check-in mechanisms in the Railway. Anyone can encroach into the platform and enter into the Train and travel. No identity is needed to be proved for issuing tickets. So is the case of road transport too. How can we say that our national security systems are perfect when controls are exercised partly! |

I do not know if we are safer but I do want to trust Mr Chidambram, when he says we are better prepared and better equipped now. Secondly, I feel TV media is over doing the 26/11 issue. Yes, we should definitely not forget it. But should it be repeated in every news bulletin, every discussion, analysis, in every channel, hour after hour. TV journalism in It seem that somewhere it became a great marketing opportunity for the news channels. Don’t say we have the remote we have the choice. When all are running the same kind of stuff where is the choice?

Yes, Priya, there is absolutely no doubt that news channels are indulging in crass commercializations. It is a rediculous premise that they want us not to forget. We can't forget it even in our sleep. Even when that devastating attack was in action, the way news channels covered it, had made us nervous. Well, to be brutal, they rae not asking us NOT to forget, but in a way reminding us our patethically inadequate response to such attack and the fact that we after a year, are still trying to cope up with the issue and the perpetrators must be enjoying what they are watching....

Nation mourns and paid tribute to 26/11/2008 victims. At India Gate, yesterday VIPS from all fields including MR. Chidambaram, Hon'ble Home Minister paid tribute to 26/11. It is our duty to pay tribute to 26/11 victims and same way the govt has to avoid such incidents by taking strong corrective measures and also insure to maintain peace. Our police department has to strengthen by providing latest equipments and training to tackle the attacks without any harm to the people. Our intelligence department and other connected departments to be strengthen by providing efficient trained police personnel with high remuneration and other perks. we have to increase border security personnel, who safeguard our country. I feel and hope that such bad incidents never repeat in our country for that our govt already taken proper steps to insure safe. |

We don't have domestic voilenses much, all terrorism and extreemism in India is mostly inflow from out side India. We shold take care by not allwing inflow of such activists, if so we succeed about 90% in curbing terrorism and extreemism. 26/11 incident is unfortunate and unforgetable to the Indian citizen. |

Truth is rarely pure and never simple Mr.Prabhu, Do you really believe that all terror activities are caused from external factors?
Then Welcome to the school of terror. This seat of orthodox Islam, some 90 miles north of Delhi, has seldom laughed off insinuations — that it had once inspired the Taliban — like this. It still cringes at the very mention of the Taliban, which owes spiritual allegiance to Darul-Uloom’s revered maslak or “tack” (school of thought).
Half-truths such as “Islamic terrorism”, it says, compelled it to come out with a fatwa (edict) against terror last February.
Yet, inside the school, people remain highly guarded. “Why are you photographing us? What will you write about us?” asks Mussadiq Hussain, a student, referring to a fatwa that banned photographs, saying it was a form of idol worship.
The establishment at Darul wants to take its anti-terror fatwa to its “logical conclusion”. “Terrorists use religion as a tool. We will use it to demonstrate our love for this country,” says Qari Usman, Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind, an organisation of Deobandi clerics, endorsed the fatwa in its November 3 conclave, setting off a fresh round of controversy.
Just imagine, having a Fatwa department! In heart of India.
They also do have a course on “jihadism” which is compulsory. I do hope it is not the jehadi terrorism! So we can thankfully mention the name of Bin laden still master minding it.

After the 26/11 attacks, India has strengthened its NSG commondo's base and more number of states are having this NSG base now and this is giving a strong impression that India is strengthening its internal security in a big way, and with the new UID which gives unique identity for each and every Indian, is the right step towards securing the country from terrorism in future, and this will stop infiltration that will happen in future, but then system should change and corruption should not happen... I would like to pay my tribute to all those souls that were lost in these Terrorist attacks. Hope their family and friends can cope these loss. Jai hind.. |

I feel we are still vulnerable as we were before, India has forgot what changes that needs to be there in the wake of such kind of attacks, there are many polls running on platforms regarding 26/11 are we safe and majority of the comments are on the no side. so most of them believe that still India is vulnerable, But then on the ocassion of this anniversary I would like to pay my tribute to all the people who were caught in the middle of firing line from terrorists and the brave policemen and NSG commandos who helped to hault the situation at all the locations. Hope their souls rest in peace. |

Not only the security can work out for prevention of this kind of activities...not even Govt...We have experienced in WTC US 9/11 attack..in such a highly secured country... Need to develop and spread sense of responsibilities, awareness and patriotism in the people...everyone should feel its a attack on their own...it will work out probably in much better way... I have started this.....hopefully you will also join in this movement..make it a grant success...use your own network..publish the awareness program in the form of a short notes or a slogan...which a common man keep in his mind... This will be a great SHRADHHANJALI..to ALL SHAHID Make your country feel proud on you.. |

Instead of mourning and mere candle job it would have made sense for 10000 mumbaikars to contribute 10/- per month for the family of deceased like Tukaram whose family does not have proper financial support. The govt. is noway bothered for small fish. |
