Majority of the scientists in our country migrate to other nations not because of money but because of dirty politics which doesn't allow good talents to come up and show their talents. On the top of that, the Quotas and Reservations never let fresh talents to come up which compells them to migrate to other nations. I think government should clean itself first in order to let talents prove themselves so that our country's R&D becomes more strong. |

Great step forward by Govt of india . State Govts and Industry should step in. Stae Govts to encourage research in the state and industries should encourage relevant research in their own domain.

It is definitely a good step forward by the Government of India. The State Government and Industries should move in the same direction. It is necessary to build a separate Institution who can directly touch with individuals or vice versa for giving all kind of support for research and development on any subject or any kind of innovative concept. The Creativity Center in America is taking a leading role in this direction. Besides, Innocentive.com is providing platform for every body in the world to become a solver. I advise Mr. Sham Sundar to publish a scientific paper on his research.
Yes, it is high time Industry is mandated to invest in research activity. States on their part as well need to encourage and support.

Why say "dole out" ? You said even small countries spend more for R & D ? Rather it is a good begining in right direction. U .. said brain drain was / is happening - dont want to stop this at least now? Apart from all other things, like 'dirty politics', 'quotas and reservations' etc. fund is certainly required. Problems are there but that may not stop those scientists who are loyal enough to work in their motherland and carry on R&D here itself. If not many , we have some "renowned" centres where R&D is being carried on - U dont want to see India progress ? |

The word "DOLE OUT" is thoroughly inappropriate considering we invest the the lowest and of whatever gets invested a major portion goes into administrative costs and very little or none reaches the actual cause.

Well, I would say why not create a recognized platform for universities / institutions to showcases new innovations or research. This is highly unstructured in our country. How many of us know about CSIR doing such a thing? |

Very true Tanmay.....
Agree with you...it is so unstructured in our country....no body able to avail such fund..CSIR is there but since last 10 years...application for research fund drastically reduced by 18% as compared to last year....
And Rs 55 crore is very less...if we see the growth of colleges and students...

My research and discovery of a self diagnostic and curative system within a human body can help millions of people. I have still not received academic approval. It is not the money but the recognition I am after. I am also unable to announce all details unless I ensure intellectual property protection. For the last nine plus years, my research efforts is much better than many who have received their PhDs. Since I am from commerce background but my research is health research, I have not received academic legitimacy. All of you toostep members, please let me know if any university in the world recognizes original research even if it from a non masters degree holder?! |

Completely agree research and innovation is not limited by formal boundaries as it is more oriented to ability to think and understand not cram and copy.

The first step has been taken. Its time for the Givt to create a platform and introduce a vocation in researching to encourage more and more students to partake in it. Govt should now actively seek private sponsors who require this talent for their own R&D purposes and with it also provide a platform for generating job opportunities as well. I would look at this step as a positive step and from here on it should only be encouraged!! |

I can observe most of the comments here. Its nice to observe so much of interest in start-ups and R&D by people One thing is for sure ,students (final year grads ) or whoever it is today expects least from the govt due to various reasons .The amount prescribed is peanuts but all in all what an enterprenuer needs today more than money is guidance . Be in the financial stream or in the talent hunting , initial steps are crucial .Once business starts picking up ( and it does like hell :) sustainable expansion is again a big concern .So i believe as the Venture capitalist firms are there , now all that the govt can do is create a platform for interaction between the pioneers of industry and young budding enterprenuers . This will further boost the industry as the concerns and problems will be kept forward and someone somewhere will try to solve it .Innovative Products and services will quickly emerge ,something very much needed today . |

Chance should be given to fresher of colleges ,so that new innovating ideas will emerge and more new IT companies with different thinking and creative products will emerge. Someone will take initiative to it. |

With this step it feels really good that the govt. is finally waking up to the importance of the existence of a conducive environment for entrepreneur and scientific development. It is finally doing some good work in encouraging a proper eco-system for entrepreneurship. (I had indicated towards the need of such a step in one of the postings as well "Graduates vying for a coolie post" under Govt. support for private business" and the government seems to have done the exact thing.) Further more there is a need for the govt. to encourage more of real research work at Univs. (this is a neglected area). It is well known that there is quite good co-operation between Univs. and industry in most developed countries. There are some instances of such tie-ups here as well (with some IITs, other specialized colleges producing some good products with industry collabrn.), but the need is to make this a more widely practiced thing. Government needs to invest in the Universities to establish specialized laboratories/departments towards this effect. |
