The Indian schools can be very narrow and technical in it's engineering. Foreign schools give you a broad experience with your engineering degree. The cultural experience which one gets in abroad is very useful, it's expensive but it's worth it. |

The additional focus of the Indian educational system on core academics and not focusing much on other areas like practical skills, soft skills, extra curricular activities and other overall personality development areas lead to candidates graduating from the institutes with little knowledge of the outside reality and find it difficult to adapt to the existing ground realities in the industry.
Additionally, the archaic systems followed make it difficult for a candidate to choose different streams of education based on his requirement. If he chooses one stream, it is difficult to change his stream mid-way. However, in foreign institutes, you can major in psychology and sociology and also do graduate studies in engineering related areas and you also gather very important practical skills on the way. This potent combination makes the foreign education quite attractive as compared to Indian education.
However, things are changing and it may be a matter of time before the Indian education system regains lost ground hopefully.....
Sonam I am in agreement with you. The students should be sent for practical training but that doesn't happen.
In fact this the difference between us and the foreign universities.
PRIVATISATION OF EDUCATION MADE IT A BUSINESS . A GRADUATE ENGINEER FROM XYZ COLLEGE IS NOT CAPABLE OF PERFORMING SIMPLE CALCULATION OF SECONDARY LEVEL . COURSE ALSO IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH WHAT A VISITING FACULTY CAN TEACH AND NOT AS PER REQUIREMENT OF INDUSTRY . I HAVE INTERVIEWED BOYS WITH BCOM BACKGROUNG AND THEN DONE A CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME FROM CAD CENTRE IN ENGINEERING DRAWING . ENGINEERING GRADUATES WITH VALID DEGREE CAN NOT CALCULATE SURFACE AREA OF GEOMETRICAL SHAPES . AFTER NEXT TEN YEARS ,AS THE GROWTH PROCEEDS ,THERE WILL BE AN ACUTE SHORTAGE OF CAPABLE JUNIOR ENGINEERS WHO CAN BE TRAINED TO FUTURE MANAGERS . AND OUR YOUNG GENERATION LACKS STAMINA ALSO MAY BE DUE TO WRONG FOOD HABITS

This is one of the main reasons why companies find many fresh graduates unemployable. Many engg graduates have absolutely no idea of the industrial standards, work practices, etc. The link between theoretical & practical knowledge is also mostly missing. Partly this is due to the engg curriculum & mostly due to the way in which engg is taught i.e. concepts are simply taught, without proper linkage to the real-world applications of these concepts. |

Engg education should benchmark Med education since it can be seen that atleast 90% of the medical graduates are able to find employment & also able to treat patients... The difference lies in the way medical education is imparted.... Somehow the Education Curricula Designers realised the fact that practical training is needed when it comes to treating people but underestimated the importance of this vital aspect when it came to machines.... The result is not amazing --- hardly 5% of the engg graduates are able to design/repair working machines/models after they complete graduation....

Our technical education is loosing it's shine due to lack of practical approach. & also students are studying there only for getting good jobs & only few of them are really interested to do career in research activities. & this is mainly happened due to ill-logical study pattern & examination pattern followed by these top most institutes. It will be a wise decision if exams are taken with respect to practical application of knowledge. Every student have the theoretical information , but when the application is in right place then it becomes the knowledge. |

Yes our teachers focus on theory only and they themselves don't know practical application ,
in US many major inventions come from Universities like MIT , their students take part in project development , their engineering students projects are also based on new technologies you can not compare them with our engineering projects its not like that they have more IQ, indians have good intelligence but this approach needs to be changed ,
|
|
We are making blocs such as EU, USU, OAU, SARC, ASEAN, BRIC etc. That means, tech guys to share & collarabrate their skills, under various environment to different Clients. India's technically qualified guys need to understand the theory & be able to interpret it to the different conditions. Nothing wrong in our learning, we need to develop the application skill, oriented towards the Project in Hand. A crash course can be organised by the Project people to the key personnel, by the Client to deliver their expectation will remedy this. |

Reading some of the above point I would like to addsome to my view explained here.
College education is narrow :-
Obviously education has stipulated syllabi & time frame, it is to be completed as everywhere.
Trans-cultural education is the one you aspired then , you prefer WUS(World university Studies), SARC College, IIT etc.
Lavish facility needs students to pay .Are they ready? They want cheaper & better education.
Practical approach:
Application is the practical approach. Applying the theory in life is practical. So student needs to develop the application skill.
Example as told here, Students are unable to find the Surface area . That means a failure in application skill.
So, if these are failures then STUDENT IS TO GEAR FOR THE REQUIREMENT. Not the education.

Today there are too many technological institutes I mean too many engineering colleges in India, but are lacking in quality, as there are very less trained professors who are in this college to give that quality in their engineering course, they are just stuffing them into the colleges irrespective of quality education imparting to them. So, its because of too many colleges, and even the government is granting so many new colleges without seeing whether they have the proper faculty and lab facilities in them. |

We all learn old things and do not have a place where they would allo us to experiment and bring out our creativity unlike in manoy other developed nations. We learn many things but they are only from books and not practical oriented. We should emphasize the creativity of the students

Right guidence from the parent by recognising childs ability is very important , sports ,fine arts , performing arts are still not a very popular option by parents ( i am also one of them ) . Infrastructure will take some more time to devolop in small towns . |

When management creeping into technical education, education basically loses its meaning.. sure you need to market your own stuff but these days, students get way more involved... after all, a bigger percentage of students in technical fields are more interested in management courses after they get into technical education. Sure they will.. technical education is tougher, less paying salary, PSU jobs are drowned in bureaucracy so ppl are least interested.... even more what students already know is that ultimately its their salary thats going to help earn their respect in society

There were too many techies passing out and not getting proper jobs or jobs that match their education. This has resulted in an overkill with parents opting out for other lucrative sectors. Also the job market hasnt kept pace with the output of techies. Either the pay was low or the jobs werent there in the first place. Economic boom, depression and then again a boom of sorts has made students opt for safer jobs like finance and marketing where the shine doesnt lost out that fast. Also the dotcom bust has led to a sense of insecurity amongst the techies itself with nationalistic rhetoric on the rise abroad. |

The debate between Arts vs Science is applicable to this date. In many ways, arts, PR, Corporate Communications, Advertising professionals are doing better than traditional scientific professionals.

We are Still British. Out public schools are producing British with Indian Mix that was the dream of Lord Mackaley when he started first public school in india. The concepts of indians are not clear because what they read is in english and we cant understand the concept in the language in which we are not comfortable. So If we really want to understand the thing just be Indian.

Here is the copy of Anna Hazare's open letter to PM.. Date: April 6, 2011 To, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Hon'ble Prime Minister of India New Delhi Dear Dr. Singh, I have started my indefinite fast at Jantar mantar. I had invited you also to fast and... |
It's an irony of sorts that Maharashtra—a state once know for an enviable history of women's rights activism—has gone for over a year without a state commission for women. The timing for the resignation of the members of the Women's Commission... |
This is just on a lighter note and not intended to hurt any feelings. |
