Even after 63yrs of independence India is still not able to provide adequate jobs to its youth. Approximately 10 to 15 million jobs are expected to be created by next year, in which 75 percent will require vocational training. If not addressed properly it can lead to a slowdown in the country's economic growth.

So, what could be the possible reasons of this issue which has no end??

Shortage of skill

idea posted by Ravali Sub Editor/Reporter, Creative Advertising

The huge numbers of Indian youth are not only unemployed but unemployable, whereas large numbers of white collar jobs are waiting for suitable candidates. India as a country should see that its youth get the necessary soft skill training that is required by the industry.

Shortage of the appropriate skills is the major reason for the unemployment factor looming in front of the candidates. Many openings are available, but the candidates are not able to fulfill the complete job requirements. Hence, many jobs are not filled properly. Thanks for the referral, Ravali....

There was a time when a commerce graduate could get a decent job with good pay..but now competition has been increased & commerce graduates are also increased..so there is so much competition to get job..so..everyone is not getting job...so..unemployment is increasing.. due to overpopulation ..the self finance colleges are increasing for a profit motive..so number of graduates come out of campus every year..but in contrast..opportunities don't increase at needed rate..so unemployment occurs..

The opinions by Mr.Ishan are correct. Further due to the emergence of importance for the IT field, almost all the engineering colleges in the country produce a lot IT techies and they all are not find better jobs on account of demand & supply criteria. The IT industries can not absorb all the IT engineers and they are also screened during interviews based on the merits and qualifications laid down by the IT industries norms.Only fittest will be recruited. This is also a major reason for unemployment. Moreover the non-technical students find very difficult to get jobs while comparing to B.E/B.Tech students with different course of study. Thanks for the referral Ms.Ravali.

"I KNOW" more than what I'm paid for keeps candidate away from job.

idea posted by Akhilesh S Joshi India Coordinator

In our country the fresh generation after passing out from their colleges starts considering themselves as master of the their professional qualification. Only few prepare for interview and face it as layman others are seen showing off their knowledge as they are quite experienced and superior to the elder generation. In number of interviews I have conducted to enroll a fresher, I have experienced that the candidate accounts for his qualification and compares himself with a well established senior candidate. With least of his professional experience he takes in to account his college learning and gossips among friends to adapt same into his professional career and there by he respond adversely to the employer while annoying them. While accepting the pay package again he compares the package with an experienced person and disagrees with the initial package offered to him. The candidate hardly considers to start with a platform for initial experience and evaluate himself for professional abilities and capacity. He trails backwards and denies to accept the offer and moves to next employment opportunity whereas his colleagues who have taken up the job with initial offer jump to next level of professional career. There are ample opportunities in our country for employment and self-employment, too but the youth of present dreams skies and stars to evaluate with their degree/ degrees. e.g. MBA from third level institution always compares himself with an MBA from first level institution or IIM and thus expects package in accordance. He dreams of himself as an established entrepreneur without having worked for a single day. He tries to establish his identity on business card with 'Managing Director'OR 'Director', an iPhone in hand, AC chamber with attractive furniture and office automation system, pantry, visitors room, personal secretary and allied expensive infrastructure to show to express his knowledge. They don't respect the experienced staff and their office culture in profession and like to implement the college culture/ gossips as practical which results into their failure in long run.

In present world, the youth of India is in doldrums and are advised to think before what they want to adapt. Listen to seniors advice and seek knowledge and working experience before implementing there knowledge which they have learned from college. This will not only prove to be brilliant for them but at the same time would bring in laurel to the nation, decrease the graph of unemployment.

Well said and aptly put. It has been my experience also. The youngsters come to the job and on the very first day of their job, start offering suggestions to their seniors on how a particular project should have been implemented - without understanding the requirements of the project, the constraints, the dependencies, the history, etc. And they also do not prefer to continue their education. They think their single professional qualification is more than enough. In this fast developing world, continuous education is required to keep pace. There is no dearth of jobs in this world. Only dearth of skilled personnel.

THE YOUTH AND YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS ARE ALSO ADVISED TO TAKE UP ANY GOOD EMPLOYMENT, REGARDLESS OF PACKAGE THEY ARE OFFERED. THIS WILL DESIGN AND RE-FABRICATE THEIR ABILITIES, CAPACITY AND GROOM WITH SKILLS & WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL IN THEIR FUTURE LIFE LONG PROFESSIONAL CAREER. ALSO, TAKING UP WITH ANY PACKAGE WILL DEVELOP SELF CONFIDENCE AND LIBERTY TO CHOOSE THE OPTIONS AHEAD. WHEREAS, KEEPING UNEMPLOYED WOULD CERTAINLY GENERATE INFERIORITY COMPLEXION WHICH WILL BE A STEP BACKWARDS IN INITIAL ACCELERATION OF PROFESSIONAL CAREER.

OVER POPULATION MAY BE THE PRIMARY CAUSE BUR THE MAIN REASON BEHIND THE UNEMPLOYMENT AMONG THE YOUTHS IN INDIA IS THEIR BASIC SKIILS.

lack of basic skill is the reason for unemployment among youth. There is a clear lack of motivation and lack of knowledge. While the present day youth are aware of immense growth in technology they are not interested or informed on part-time jobs which gives them the wherewithal to improve on their skills and sharpen them too! so they must start early and have an insight into part-time jobs across industries.....

Hi everybody! Most of unemployed youth belongs to Rural India. That's because of very bad education guidence and lack of quality education in rural areas. Students can't acquire the qualified faculties and suitable environment for technical and skilled knowledge. They are unable to fullfill the company's requirements for being an employee... Thay are unable to develop themself according to industry need... They are unable because corporate has mooved towards international environment and of course expact more from its manpower... and that's is weekness of most Indian youth...

There are so many colleges for Biotech but can any one tell me how many companies are their who take biotech freshers, i guess only few are there. I mean say that there is no one who can guide students before opting Biotech profession. Also most of the companies and institutes talks about cream level of students but no one bothers about the average students, what about them?

My observation is nowadays, youngsters prefer lazy jobs. They do not like to make humble beginning. They feel they are well educated / qualified, so they must get a manager's position, even to start with. They should inspire from one MBA who started idli shop and now owns chain of idli store. All big corporates had humble start and grew.

With the mushroom of Professional Colleges in the country coupled with special concessions in merit for a select class and money power for the others competance is nowhere considered. Getting into a professional college and passing out is an easy one way traffic. These students do not have good educational background and have not faced difficult and challanging situations in life ever before. The sons are pampered in Indian society and their emotional quotient is very low. Most of them also have low IQ, as the KG/Primary education has been at average or low grade schools. These people are not able to respond properly during recruitment or after initial selection. Their problem solving capability is almost zero and they shirk from responsibility. Seeing others flourishing they dream of becoming rich overnight and hence get frustrated and withdraw themselves from society. Then they continue dragging their feet for years to come.

No equilibrium in high expectation and efforts.

idea posted by Pranjal Ghosh Marketing Executive in Channel Sales
Generally students fails to calculate whether your expectations are really matching your efforts. A small example i would like to put is, in a management class a topic is being discussed about inflation and monetary policy. we all know that these days food inflation is a big problem in our country. now the concerning thing was that students were not able to connect inflation, GDP, monetary and fiscal policy, FII's level of investment in our country and lastly sub prime problem of USA in mid of 2008. there i felt that students were just able to define the individual topics and fail to relate them with each other. there is a need of revolutionary change in the pattern of learning. still students just study to manage good marks and thats it. i just tried to focus on the basic problem which a student face and finally not able to meet his/her expectations. it is not about that students are not capable of making the difference, but their style of learning. Youth have to understand that what corporate really wants from them and if youth start taking it seriously definitely positive results would occur for sure.

Quick success achieved by above and the Rat Race syndrome offer a cocktail of affairs, that some "Mostly unsuccessful or claiming to be honest" keep criticising.

There are huge number of graduates, Engineers, other professional grads passing out from universities and colleges. But the employability among them is very low (near to 10-15%). That is the major reason why still the unemployment is very high. The word is not literacy / education, but EMPLOYABILITY. There are ample number of industries, companies and IT/ITES firms who can provide jobs and the Indian economy is growing in good numbers. so there is no question of lesser jobs. The companies nowadays are satisfying themselves with substandard candidates. But the Govt of India has found a good solution for this and they have formed a council named NSDC, for National Skill Development. This is in collaboration with the industry. Hope the future generation is employable.

Lack of exposure and knowledge about what to do and what anyone is good at while choosing career .

idea posted by Rajatesh Nath Barbhuiya M.Des, Indian Institute Of Technology (IIT), Guwahati
First and foremost is let me give an example of myself.I did my 10+2 in science stream and from a city named silchar, assam, where one is expected to persue a career in either medical, engg, law or polytechnic, ITI. After that i was suggested programming knowledge would be an added advantage, but seriously speaking i never wanted to do the above options and no one would let me easily leave my hometown for further education. I enrolled for Webdesign and from there i came to know about Design as in product design, industrial design, i enrolled for graduation then in design and then my journey completely shifted to design education and career .What i want to say is if i had not enrolled in that web-design course which was kind of by accident because one is not expected to go for such a course after 10+2 i had not known abt design at such an earlier stage. Now it is not necessary as far as i believe that one should persue a career in any best paying field, one should also think and consider the skill sets one has before deciding on any career path because at a later stage only skills will let one reach great heights and not the path, frankly speaking this realization is so late among youths that they usually end up realizing it at a stage where they have almost completed their graduation or any level of education which is mostly forcefully or under influence of social circle or senior students and are trying for a job or any kind of employment. I believe just after passing out of 10th class , an individual should be thoroughly introduced to all sorts of career path they can choose or are available so that they start believing in their skill set which they posses and develop them through the career path they choose.

A commerce graduate of 70s or 80s got a bank job and was settled for life. He did not need to continue his education because the developments were not fast. Everybody led a sedate life. This is not the case today. The shelf life of any product or technology is very small. Today's world requires a lot of reading and studying to keep abreast of the latest happenings. There are also ample opportunities to do this. Internet, libraries, institutes, professional bodies and societies, self-formed groups and so many other avenues. Those youngsters who are making use of these avenues are climbing up the ladder very fast. And they are really smart. One person cannot change the world. But he can change himself and make a positive difference to his family and friends.

many young people today do not feel the urge to work. they live in an imaginery world. they think that they can survive somehow . on the income from their parents who are abroad. from the income they get from the ancestoral properties. they are not serious about building a career , not to talk of starting an enterprise. basic problem however is that our education system is no good. it doesnt develop job skills . it doesnt even help in moulding personality . ( i am not talking about exceptions like our i i t .) the second problem is that we do not have a national leader who can inspire the youth. it is not enough to build political parties. it is not adequate to form governments. our youth should be given a long term goal and encouraged to work. none can survive without working either in the farms or in the factories or in service provider organisations . either as an employee or as an owner. the third problem is that we do not pay the ones who work. it is difficult to believe but true that skilled worker like a nurse working non stop for atlest 8 hours daily earns less than hundred rupees a day. this is the case in kerala. so imagine the situation in other states. let the government wake up and ensure minimum wages for the workers if it wants to promote a work culture in the country. so to conclude let us forget what went wrong in the past. let us vow to do things ( at least some things ) right future. like revamp the education system to impart job skills. ensure that iminimum wage is above sustenance cost. and promote work culture at the highest level.
