It has been promoted and supported since ages. As its promotion began early it acquired a higher place than other sports. The popularity it has gained can't be reduced, divided or changed. Other sports somehow have not got so much of exposure and fan following. Well, my father watched cricket because my grandfather too watched it and then I became a fan because cricket was the only game I got to watch (because my father watched it). So generation down generation the game got promoted as a heredity!! Perhaps it is the one of the reason for its popularity. |

Yash I am afraid I don't agree with your point of view. In Bengal and Kerala every body watch foot ball then any other game still not all bongs and kerelites don't watch foot ball which has the largest fan following all through the world. Kerry Packer has made cricket interesting by day night game and add ons. So I think it will be wrong to say that cricket is famous since generations watch the game.

It all has to with the above. Take away both from any sport and you will see it buried in two lines in the last section of the sports coloumn of a newspaper. The more money and wider coverage an event receives the more famous it will be. Just imagine a situation wherein all the bollywood and regional movie stars throng to the national games which is televised live across all channels, you will definitely find our masses there rather than watch the world cup cricket.
Its all about commerciaisation and star power in sports !
