Today I would like to share an interesting article with you all.

Even with many of the Global economies coming out of recession has not given good news for the IT industry in the country, the prolonged slump in global technology services spending is clearly turning out to be giving them choose some alternate venues and unchartered territories from which they can bring in the required profits. With Green IT being the mantra a year ago which landed many of the deals like the growth was around 24% on a yearly basis but that has slumped down to 4-5% a year.

But then they are not sitting back, they are working over time, identifying new niches, new markets, creating new systems to get the bucks in this tough environment and prepare for better times.

Some of the biggies like,

Infosys Technologies -  is strengthening the front end and will hire many in France and Germany as it sees these markets open up.

Wipro - is betting on seven new focus areas, which it sees as the big businesses of tomorrow which include cloud computing, collaboration technologies and social computing and others.

Cognizant -  has tripled its team of consultants to 1,800 and is betting on new geographies like Japan, Australia and India.

TCS - is increasing more work offshore and strengthening its combined its IT-BPO offering.

So where do you think IT companies should focus or which are the avenues which will generate revenue for them?

Innovation

idea posted by Navneet Rai Sales/BD Manager, Infosys

I think this should be given more importance as reports also suggests that in many of the companies innovation team strength has gone up from 10 to 50 and the employee use has jumped to 75% from about 63-64 % last year. In recent months people are starting to develop new solutions which have helped reduce software testing time by up to 40% nearly. Companies that constantly innovate, looking for those niche growth areas are likely to ride the tough time more easily in the future.

Quality

Quality of the work deliverd can add up lot of spice to the offering's I am not saying that we don't do it now but the correction that have come up now have changed the market in lot of ways... so stating a CMMi tag may just not be enough co's may have to showcase the history of good deliveries.

Social computing

idea posted by sumitra dutta Consultant, XYZ

There’s been a lot of interest recently in the social aspects of Web 2.0 experiences because of their tendency to alter the communities that use them. Interestingly, the major computing firms now have dedicated Social Computing research groups including both Microsoft and IBM. And it’s an increasingly hot topic in management circles as the implications and issues are surfacing more and more these days. The Forrester report says, new social structure is emerging in which technology puts power in communities and not in institutions any more.

It appears that the two-way Web is increasingly moving the power out of the hands of trusted institutions and into the hands of everyday users on the social platform, who decide for themselves what products they should buy, whose information they should consume, and what kind of marketing they want.
