Networking within the company including workers / vendors & maybe even customers could give you both tangible & intangible benefits to improve processes or even new methodology. You should have a system in place to capture, tabulate, discuss ideas & using a stage-gate methodology ensure that workable ideas are implemented. I would call the aha !! moment of an idea that is deemed workable as Innovation.

You can use some of the Knowledge Management techniques to callate, collaborate, evaluate and test the Wisdom of the masses. Whats important is to know how to use the wisdom.
I agree... wisdom of masses is great leverage.
Suggestion Scheme and Quality Circle with proper rewards bring in wisdom of people
in business and product/production areas.
These can be done in design, process, toolings and facility augmentation for total improvement.

equipment maintenance has some other benefits as well once you go into broad picture by following preventive and predictive maintenance you ensure that machine are well taken care of before it give you suprises .It also take care of those critical machines which are running to the threshold because of large cycle time .It is just like going to doctor for regular medical checkup instsed of visting him when you are ill

The basic knowledge of the end use , with an indepth analysis in all areas of its functionality, help in eliminating certain redundant operations ( machining/heat-treatment/inspection control) from the process sheet of manufacturing. This greatly helps in minimizing the production cost (for eg. eliminating bore grinding in connecting rods).

Mr.Sushil i would agree with you.Moreover one should innovate in those areas which drive the performance of your business.
- Stock control and order processing - constantly look for better ways to streamline your order processing and stock control to ensure that you have the right amount of stock.
- Logistics and warehousing - rethink how you deliver your products to your customers so that you take advantage of new transport opportunities and keep warehousing costs to a minimum.

For any and every product, there is a market segment waiting. Many manufacturers fail to identify these segments and keep running after new products and markets. Every participant in the Manufacturing process is capable of identifying the market segment where your products are required. Here, by segments, I dont mean niche, my definition of Market Segment, is, a market size where your product can sustain now as well as in the near future. The definition of near future will depend on your organisation ways. It is in identifying these segments, that one can use innovation. The most cost effective and economical way to make an impact as you are not changing the physical product but the way its offered. |

New components, new suppliers or an improved deal with your existing suppliers could improve your products and your profits. Rethink how you deliver or procure your products to your customers so that you take advantage of new transport opportunities and keep warehousing costs to a minimum.

Component sourcing has many advantages as well when you are partening with vendor you are exposing yourself to new set of ideas and innovation which may either have slip your mind or it has never occured to you because of your engagement to other critical jobs .Sourcing just opens you to ocean of innovative ideas ,best practices and cost effective solutions

It is not because you are in competition that you can not share formations and experiences. Plus it is a good opportunity to increase relationship among your employees. They will see innovation that are used (or not...) in other places. This can reinforce the impact of innovation of your company if you are not the only one saying that innovation is a good thing. If your employees are aware and understanding with the competiton, the interest of doing better is easily shared. |
