Virual teams are not effective

idea posted by Abhinav Chouhan Team Lead, Wipro
The virtual teams are not as effective as traditional teams where everyone is located in the same place. But the reality is that virtual team can exceed the performance of the traditional teams for same task. As virtual team members are located at different places, they have an advantage when traditional teams brain storm as they only look at a single idea too early.

We could not express, virtual teams are not effective.  Most of the MNC companies have virual team and they manage the project very effecienty and effectively with the use of advanced technology like E-mails, chat, video- conferencing .Virtual team combine the talent peoples in companies, thereby allowing better use of human resources. It should consider three factors for their ultimate sucess 1. their locations relative to one another 2. the percentage of time they spend face to face 3. their level of technical support.

yeah, this is one widely heard misconception about virtual team. In reality we cannot say that virtual teams are ineffective. Virtual teams started developing with the advent of internet enabling multi channel communication. This does not necessitate Virtual team members to meet regularly. Many Strategic Planning Teams of MNCs are working effectively as virtual teams.

I agree with Mr.Chouhan that in house team will land up having a single idea very soon...whereas Virtual teams members can look wide , as each members are situated ate different place. Best one can be chosen...

Accountability

idea posted by Ashok Priya Project Manager, Covansys
Misconception : There is no accountability as team is out of sight

Reality :Out of sight doesn't mean they are unaccountable. Accountability of the virtual team will be based on measurable outcomes. This means shifting to a results-oriented paradigm.

No trust among team members

I have notice one more misconception about the virtual team is that, they cannot develop trust among the members of their team.
I don't agree with it, they can develop trust quickly when there is focus on communication and interaction.
