Retail is a competitive business. Even if your product is completely unique, you still have competition. There is always another store down the street - or in the next cyber-mall - that is aiming for your customers' wallet. Customers have a limited amount of disposable income, but their choices of where to spend it are infinite.

So, how to attract more customers into your retail.....

Keep it simple

idea posted by Purvi Ghosh Marketing analyst, Percept Advertising

Don't try to do too much. The goal is to attract attention to the product. On a slat wall, often simple rows are the best way to show the merchandise. Too often I have seen displays where every row or shelf has a different arrangement.

Your goal is to make it easy for the customer to find what they are looking for and to make sense of your product arrangement. Keep your groupings logical by grouping similar products together, with complimentary products nearby.

diifferentiate yourself

idea posted by vineet MARKETING Manager, SRS GROUP
The thing which is most important in attracting the more customer is Differentiation. If a owner enters into a business with a mind set of "ME TOO" then it's very difficult to sustain its business. Because they will have to follow the trend which other competitors are doing and which party has the capability to face the neck cut competition that will survive. As in the case of Relaince Retail- there might be many stores which could not be adding on in the company's profit, but they are surviving. while in the case of subhiksha retail and many other retail chains they could not survive till long because of the loss bearing power (it's just one of the factor). So every business should have a reason to tell the customers " Why Me". Till long you have that advantage you willl lead in your business and custoers will keep adding on in your data base.

The way of attracting customer varies depending on the nature of the product and nature of its purpose and end users. If the product is highly particular purpose fulfilling, then mere advertisement can't give sustainability to the product unless consistent quality standard is above questioned. On contary, if the product is to serve regular day to day need then apart from quality standard, product differention is of prime importance.

Subiksha was doing ok in their early days but they expanded without proper study or putting into place any good and proven system and procedures. Also, their HR policy was pathetic.

Show the customers fullfillment of their needs.

idea posted by Jyoti CHETANI Freelancer, Equity Research/Analytics

Customers are attracted not by the products, but majorly to fullfill their needs.

The attraction lies when the consumer feels the the requiremnt or desire is fullfilled and shall be satisfactory with the product.

Create a focal point

idea posted by Namrata Pathak Accounts Manager, American Express

An overwhelming display or a boring one can both have the same problem - a lack of focal point. Think about the following:

* Where do you want your viewer to look?

* Is there one main feature you want them to notice?

* Where will the eye travel through the display? Don't leave this to chance. Plan what the customer should do when they see the display. Perhaps a new product is the main focal point, with complimentary items placed in close proximity to encourage multiple sales.

Many window and table displays are too low. The focal point should be at eye level to most viewers. Visitors will not work to get a good look at your display, they will simply walk on by without noticing.

To my opinion place the product at a focal point ie some where middile so customer will look at the product  and the second time he/she ll purchase

Understand your strengths

idea posted by Jayant Vishnu Art Director/Sr Art Director, Creative

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Why do people buy from you?
  • What do you really do for your customers?
  • How are you better than your competition?
  • What special skills or advantages do you have?

The answers to these questions are your competitive advantages. They are what make you stand out from your competition. They may be related to price, location, professional skills, attitude, responsiveness or your own personality.

People buy from you because you do something for them no one else does. Understand this and you've taken the first step to better marketing.

Make the Consumers Your Prosumers

idea posted by Shahnawaz Islam PR & Media Relations Manager, National Institute of Smart Governance

One should make every attempt to make your consumers as your prosumers.

If the product is being readied -- One should run the scratches of the creatives through the potential consumer, and note if anyone would like to purchase the product and at what price. When the product is ready, try to sell the product to the consumers (hopefully at least some were genuinely interested)-- maybe pull them in with a discount below their resistance point. Get these customers to help you sell to other interested people.

If your product is already ready, and you have to get more customers -- then use below-the-line activities to interact with customers and let the excitement of your innovative events amplify the effect of your marketing.

People are in the habit of window shopping before making a decision for purchase of a commodity/product.  So arrange your product in such a way that it attracts attention.

Regional Connect

idea posted by Prassan Kumar Sharma AVP, Nirmal Bang Securities

Though all the ideas provided above work to attract customer but at the same time we can see one more factor that matters is regional connect. If the product or the way it has been presented or the presenter has the regional touch, it sells like hot cake. Example is National Hand loom in Rajasthan which has guys speaking Rajasthani , a low cost local manpower which boosts sale.
