Oil demand and price are set to grow steadily over the next 25 years despite environmental policies, essentially dooming climate-change goals, the International Energy Agency forecast on Tuesday.

Even under climate change pledges made under the Copenhagen Accord last year, fossil fuels will still account for more than half the increase in total energy demand, with oil to remain the dominant fuel, the IEA said in its World Energy Outlook report.  It forecasts demand for oil to rise by 18 per cent between 2009 and 2035, driven by developing countries, with nearly half the increase due to China alone.

So, how to tackle this situation which will arise in near future?? what are your thoughts on this....

More emphasis on Renewable energy by Developing countries

idea posted by Padmaja Baskar Product Development Manager, ONGC

Developed countries like India and China are going great guns but they are forgetting at what cost they are developing themselves, the carbon footprint from these two countries at the moment is more than ever and atleast in India it is haphazard development, and fuel is wasted like anything, there will be thousands of vehicles which will be travelling with a single person in it, simply too much of fuel is wasted carpooling or bike pooling will help to reduce the traffic congestion and also less usage of fuel for that matter. People should change their thinking and the developing countries should give more emphasize on renewable energy and that is not happening...

Biorefining of crops for production of power, transport fuels, and a diverse array of chemicals has potential for providing significant added economic value to biomass. A shift in the industrial resource base from fossil resources to biomass also requires a shift in the technology base for producing, handling, and processing of raw materials. Biotechnology will play an important role in providing tools for different stages ranging from biomass production, treatment, and valorization to various products. First generation refineries have raised some critical issues related to land use and insufficient environmental benefits due to energy-intensive cultivation of crops. The abundant residual lignocellulosic biomass will constitute an important feedstock for the future biorefineries so as to have a minimal impact on the food availability. Necessary investments in technological development will be needed to realize the benefits of the new bioeconomy in the long term.

This is the best time to implement renewable sources as we still need better technology in terms of collecting and utilizing that resourses..... Now its time for govt to push hard for mandatory use of renewable energy in every sector/feild......
