The government on Tuesday said prices of onions are likely to remain high for the next three weeks, but the situation is likely to improve thereafter in the wake of its move to ban exports of the commodity.  "Onion prices will remain high for the next three weeks and the situation is likely to improve only after two-three weeks. Ban on onion exports should help reduce the prices," when just the fuel prices was increased by 3 Rs all of a sudden. Now Onion prices which are touching 70-80 Rs per kilo. What should a common man do at this point of time?? Who should be held responsible for this?? And how to cope with the situation??

In-efficient ministers

idea posted by Kavitha Shankar Sr/Principal Coresspondent, ABC

I think one should blame all these in-efficient ministers, when they were knowing that essential commodities are in shortage then what was the need to export them to other countries, and then what is the point in buying back from them for a higher price, the agriculture minister is sole responsible here, and earlier telecom minister A Raja was responsible for the 2G scam, now Sharad pawar is saying in 3 weeks the onion prices will get back to normal, and in three weeks time Mr Pawar will earn his share. He did the same when sugar prices were going up. The greed is endless by these ministers.

Due to inefficient political leadership, the agriculture policy has not been effective to take into account the vagaries of the market conditions and address the problems of the people. Hence, this scenario has occurred and the only way is to reactively offer some quick-fix solutions as a stop gap measure. These issues can be addressed if the agriculture policy is made more robust so that the welfare of the farmers are taken care and the local population is also not affected. Thanks for the referral, Kavitha.....

Kavitha agree with you but only partly as you have missed out on Bureucrats as also traders and retailers who are as much a part of this POWER MONEY GREED CIRCUS.

Someone mentioned farmers are benefited .... sorry dear friend, allow me to correct your ignorance........................... Farmer does not get anything out of this jugglary and is not even interested in quick bucks.

Lame Excuse of Minister! Which Importing Country Pays Rs.60 to Rs. 80 per KG of Onion?

idea posted by PS Dhingra CEO & Vigilance & Transformation Management Consultant, Dhingra Group of Management & Educational Consultants

In spite of the Food and Agriculture Minister having remained a controversial figure, I don't understand, why he is still holding the ministry? He cannot do anyhing except making lame excuses.

The question arises, which of the importing country pays Rs.60 to Rs.80 per KG of Onion? Let the Minister come forward with the statistics, as to which exporter could get the present Indian market price of the onion on export of the commodity, what to say of more than that on export.

Sheela Dixit, CM, Delhi declared that teams would raid the vegetable markets from "TOMORROW", i.e., the next day after she decides. That way she gave one clear day to the politicians' pet hoarders, so that they can shift their hoarded onion stock easily. Even they would have been sent phonic messages also to the hoarders before the decision to raid could have been finalizd.

The question arises, why she kept sleeping all these days and why not asked her teams to practically raid the Mandis, before she could declare her intention?

Was not her action merely an eye-wash before the public?

BETTER FOR FARMERS

We can see from the past last 3 to 4 year the prise of the onion is to low it is not possible to cover it's farming expenditures but now time for farmer to recover that all loss.

I am not agree with this that this is better for farmers bcoz the money is not directly go to the farmers in betn the customer and farmers there is long chain is present i.e. 'Broker'.if onion prise is 80 ru. then the farmers may get only 25 to 30 ru.

Yes, very well said , I support your views. The thing for which every one is shouting is bringing smile on farmer's face.

Agriculture Policy

idea posted by Mohan Area Sales Manager, Thomson Reuters
We only cry when the price of any commodity goes up. why don't we cry when the price of any commodity is not even equal to cost of its production. The ministry of agriculture should purchase all agriculture commodities on MSP & these should be sold on a standard price across the country. Then only farmer will be assured to get his produce's price & will plant balance crop

Everyone

idea posted by JOGINDER SINGH CHANDNANI MMS Student (IES MCRC, Bandra)

Government has reason (or they create one) for every hike in price. LPG cylinders, Pulses, Petrol & Diesel, Onions, Tomatoes…it won’t end until common man understands the whole circle.

The Ruling will hike the price by Rs.5 & then opposition will come in to picture with their worthiness & price slash to massive Rs.2. Conclusion will still be a hike in PRICE. And if Price is not decreasing that indicates inflation is prevailing in the economy.

Everyone in the supply chain is responsible for this, along with many culprits from Government (ruling + opposition). One can easily cope up with these situations Because Government is there for 5 years. And that means common man is having lots of time to think & talk about the bad government instead of our bad selection.

And if government hikes the price of Petrol or Onions there is indirectly hike in every product, because everyone has to survive.

Now CNG Gases & Milk!!

No remedy

As rightly commented by the friends, all the above factors bring tears even WITHOUT cutting onions. Aspirants spend crores in elections. They collect donations from traders, industrialists etc... Immediately after elections , these DONORS are allowed to get back their INVESTMENT with interest. This is what is happening....It may be sugar, toor daal, onions, vegetables, petrol, diesel....

What is the remedy???

...God only knows(if HE is there)!!!

Ban Commodity Market/Exchange

idea posted by nagesh rao Freelancer, Freelancer
It is a cartel playing around commodity market to constantly monitoring the price movement and crop yielding constantly, by creating artificial demand and bring back the same commodity under the guise of import with higher price whether it is onion or sugar or rice & pulses. This is the ploy of the Agriculture Minister how he allowed to export sugar at rs.27 per kg. and imported at 37per kilo and sold to upto rs.50/kg in the retail market. Rather than to take necessary action to curtail price, he himself indicating that till end January nothing can be doneto bringdown onion price by throwing the people to these greedy wolves to fleece the common man by encouraging the hoarding by flareup the price. The so called clean PM & His team gaping at him instead of kicking this fellow out by getting the opposition party's support, put some right guy to handle Agriculture Portfolio.
