Ethisphere's proprietary rating system, which it calls the Ethics Quotient, is based on a series of multiple-choice questions in a survey that is designed to capture a company's performance in an objective and standardised way.Mostly companies nominate themselves for this. 110 companies made it to the list. 5 were from Japan.. Only one from India. Why aren't we ethical. What makes Indian companies to bend the ethics.

idea posted by Namrata Pathak Accounts Manager, American Express

Every businessman is willing to earn more and more . They want to make success in terms of numbers and are least concerned about calling themselves ETHICAL..

Namrata I agree with your point of view. At the same time the outlook of corporates are changing.

I support your views, Namrata. Indian companies want to make more & more money & they don't even care what the way is?

Why do they rate Is it a ethical business

Rating is another business. how ethical are they themselves. Of course in India it is the politce and relegion thats killing this country and every other person or company cannot call themselves ethical if they use relegious entiments and politics to gain for themselves. In that score i dont think there is no one company that can be called ethical

As long corruption exists in govt. cirles and babudom, indian corporate world will find it difficult to rise above these power struggles and raise their ethical quotient.

Ethical Enterprise

Their words and actions reflect India's deep-rooted ethical, moral and value systems and they are customer-centric. They have very strict norms for the staff to promote value system and their rigorous training to revisit the objectives also play an important role!

surprising and a wake up call

idea posted by Kiran Sethumadhavan Partner, Sunrise Associates
its surprising that only one company stands out among the most ethical companies. This should also be a wake up call for other 'so called great' organisations that their good will is eroding due to their greed and carelessness.

Reasons are manifold.

idea posted by KALIYAMOORTHY Oil & Gas Area Coordinator, Undisclosed

The following may be the reasons:-

  • Concept might not be known to all companies
  • Criteria for the survey may not be clear
  • Companies may not like to expose to unnecessarily
  • Survey may not be on par with International setting & rating
  • Nomination of this survey & selection may not be recognized, yet by the Industry
  • Such body may not be a popular, accredited society/ organization that, its judgment is respected.
  • Origin of the country - The country it belongs to, that conducted it. etc.

Transparency

HDFC is more transparent than most other (Loan) companies. Their poilcies may be identical to say "NO=BANK" or "LENA-BANK", but it is brought out very clearly in public domain
