Open source software which is a free software which can be downloaded by anyone. A lot of different software can are licensed as open source. Open source software are under the license free software license. There are also different upgrades for these open source software that can also be freely downloaded from the Internet. By using open source software, people don't need to worry about spending a lot of money for original copies of software. This will also lessen the number of people who are using pirated software as there are alternative programs that can be used. |

yes safety measures should be taken to avoid losses.
I also agree this statement many piracy website provide free downloading of famous softwares including OS do open source is the best idea and compulsary online can be done to prevent the piracy but this too can be broken with reverse engineering so open source is the best idea
I am absolutely against software piracy, but one has to look at the reasons for software piracy to exist.
Linux is the open source software used in the US by universities and corporates, however in India there is a lacuna of understanding viz Linux for one and secondly everybody seems to be only talking about and selling Microsoft.Almost every private user surfs the net to find free software,be it anti virus or games or other applications and these softwares are the ones in most demand....the big players in the market could minimize these issues of piracy by making older versions of their software as open source freeware.

Why do people use pirated software? Why is it predominant in Asian countries? I think the answer to both these questions is the exorbitant price of software, particularly those sold by American and European companies. If a popular software is priced at ,say $20, in the US, it is not a very high price for Americans. But if the same software is sold for Rs.1000 in India, people will think twice before buying it. Because, Rs. 1000 constitute a major fraction of the earning of an average individual in India. So piracy thrives. But if the company is wise enough, it will sell the software for, say Rs. 200 in India, and their market will zoom to compensate for the reduced price. The point is, software must be priced at comfortable levels in the local currency. |

According to survey reducing price is a practical way for it. There is too much rise of people purchasing licensed software now due to fall in prices.

Open source is good, and should be there always. The majority of the commercial software, however, is better supported or maintainable. At the least, there is someone responsible for the wellbeing of the software. 'Giving away' the software to avoid piracy is like giving everybody access to all your possessions so that if someone takes it, it is not stealing. There is no need to buy anything if you can get it for free too. But if it is all for free, why work for it or do anything at all? Piracy is theft. Using pirated software is aiding a fellony. The argument that software is expensive doesn't hold ground. Software is cheap in respect of the amount of work it takes to create. Software would be even cheaper if everybody bought it. |

For many years preventing software piracy has been & continues to be a big issue. Pirating software is wrong. There could be many things that companies or individuals could do to help reduce this. But many times some people still find ways to get around this which makes it a continuous problem to fight.
*Don't buy individual software titles that were originally packaged as part of a collection.
*Avoid compilations of multiple software titles from different publishers on a single disk or multiple software titles on a single disk.
*Check the end user license agreement before making any purchase
*verify authenticity of serial numbers
*if you have any questions or concerns contact the company, developers, owners etc...
*Utilize anti-piracy software, hardware or code key
*find out how a company normally ships its software & how they package it etc...
*Be very careful of buying software from auctions and avoid sellers offering backup copies.
*Be suspicious of software products that don’t come with some proof of authenticity ETC, ETC, ETC.....
There are many things that could be done to help reduce software piracy. A company or person that develops software just has to research and/ or develop ways that are best for them that would help to reduce this. It may be hard but it is worth the fight to help protect intellectual property or software rights.

So long as the gray market exists in India for electronic and telecommunication goods, this kind of software piracy will continue to take place. If you are selling a computer to a common man, how can you expect him to pay more than the price of the hardware for software. Unless you allow the hardware vendors (even gray market) vendors to bundle the commonly used softwares at a very nominal value - built into the hardware cost) this kind of piracy will continue to exist. This is an era where OPEN SOURCE is the de facto standard for various operations. OGL is available for various platforms - why not adopt that? To make it even more user-friendly, organised training sessions are required for the end-users to utilize their fullest potential. Who will bell the cat?

This idea is not "originally mine". It was picked up from a seminar conducted by ETTDC - now it is known as ET&T. This was in 1987 The MD had said there that the prices of software should be brought as close to the price of media as possible. Add burning charges - virus free guarantee, and support charges if user requires. This will involve a lot of activity in Open Source also - e.g. Linux (say Redhat) is available both off the net - free and in a shrink wrapped version at a cost. Let the user choose. |

Thanks for the referral Mr.Srinivas, i accept your idea.
The cost reduction will lead to control the piracy. Since the prices are too high people are involving in piracy.

One method to reduce pirace is to renting out the s/w or leasing s/w. The rent should be minimal to stop piracy. |

The student community is basically the one which downloads the most. The reason is usually the sky high prices. If the developers introduce cheaper versions to students through their colleges then at least some of the free downloaders may be converted

1. FIRST OF ALL WE DO NOT HAVE TO PUT THE LINK OF FULL VERSION ON THE WEB SO THAT BUSINESS MAN CAN NOT DOWNLOAD FULL VERSION IN FREE OF COST
2. PUT OPEN AND SUCH KIND OF SECURITY ON ORIGINAL SOFTWARE SO THAT EVEN HACKER'S CAN NOT BREAK THAT SECURITY & WHICH ALSO CAN NOT BE EASILY AVIALABLE IN CHIP & SMALL MARKET'S

We can avoid the software piracy issues with use of copy righted medias (CD/DVDs) and with the use of online licensing method (whereby as a installation procedure, the license can be incorporated online with the valid souce media and paper license or the registration details). |

Think about it, why would I pay Rs.8,000 for MS Office if the only thing I'd do with it is create simple text documents? I dont want Excel, publisher, ppt etc but i'm forced to buy them all if I were to say no to piracy. Thats why 85% of MS Office in India is pirated. Same goes with the rest of the S/W. |

If you have capability then you can by any software. but if your are not capable to purchase then it means you have no right to learn that technology. But by open source softwares you have chance to competete with others and you haveright tomodify it.You can use your inovative mind in that. Here is lot of people who have not enough money to buy original softwares.
