Though PLM describes the lifecycle through which a product moves, PLM really only ever covers that part of the lifecycle that is described by, "engineer/design". There are other business processes that handle the rest of the lifecycle from Supply Chain Management (SCM), Supplier Relationship Management (SRM), Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and other things like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). How is it that PLM is suddenly to take over the management of IP and information across these other domains?

1 PLM ,ERP, BI
2 Total PLM , not desirable

PLM ,ERP, BI

I think,  PLM (PDM) has become so confused with the core ERP domain. In general, PLM vendors have taken on the core engineering and now business processes around product development. They have arrived at the end of the growth curve and have a mature market. So they diversify..and are now entering B2B related to core execution systems and Business intelligence. While the flexibility of PLM products was an asset to solutions, this becomes a liability when arriving at transactional areas and do not have domain expertise. While PLM system may be able to offer a window into the transaction flow as a previous comment mentioned, its at what expense. PLM is your hammer so is Business intelligence on products just another nail?

Total PLM , not desirable

A total PLM is not only desirable but is near to being achieved .From Design to Raw Materials to manufacture to end-Delivery. Take any point on the end-to-end PLM and we can have it "automated" where you can plug-in and see your PLM state managed to any desirable juncture. Be it collaborated, conceptualized, ordered, flanged-to-ERP, raw-material-PLM ,being manufactured, inspected ,shipped ,assembled ,tested ,delivered,RE-ORDERED ,paid, banked,TOTAL PRODUCT LIFE CYCLE without handoffs under one PLM  i.e. enterprise wide information management

over and above all these one needs find out the history about the company on how they treat the employees. The hiring people may paint a rosy picture but the reality may be different. It is always good to take an opinion from an ex- employee
This is just to fill the shortage and nothing more than that... Also the immigrants have to pass english test and should have stayed in US for 2 years and and should not been out of the country for more than 90 days during that time.
