NPD can be very tricky and needs to be handled carefully , espacially the requirements part, one needs to adopt agile PM techniques , and divide the team in fractions and do an iterative design and developement, if we do a modular developement this will try to keep the project mostly on track and any iteration which is off track can be helped within the teams , but here again the most tricky part is the requirement which may even come after you have finished the ieration so one has to be carefull to do the versioning which helps a bit in deffering that ieration to a incremental version, but the key lies in time and people management |

In NPD projects, project management is more applicable to development activities (which can be planned and controlled) than to product conceptualisation (which can’t be planned or controlled). Usually companies may have more than one NPD project running simultaneously, often using common resources. In such cases resource management becomes important and starts allocating resources according to their priorities. |

I agree with Kiran. NPD is a new class of tools has emerged to support managing and serving as a repository for other documents that are not typically managed by a Product Data Management system. It is more applicable to developement activities than to product conceptualisation.
