It is simple but difficult to implement... especially in the case of technically sound Managers (say TECHNO MANAGERS).. They always tend to do the work and thus get managed by Work rather that Managing the work... |

Yes Mr. Joshi, you are right...i support your point.
own a responsibilty, devide it in to a number of tasks with timeline for each. create a simple excel sheet for subdelegation. identify your group individuals with respect to the required specialization. devide the tasks between individuals and mention it in your excel sheet with timeline and follow up.
set reminders 'for you only'. Your job is just to follow up remember - if your subordinate is a good project manager, he will still subdevide and subdeligate. Observe it and decide whether you can give still more lod to such performers.
you can only follow up the schedule and your team will be following up the job for you and hope you can manage the time easily.

Being a project manager, he should avoid going to everyones room one by one to ask for a status report. Say No to one on one meeting.Instead, spend that time focusing on risks, issues and opportunities.

Instead of one on one meeting, try having a team meeting with an agenda and make sure the meeting lasts not more than the scheduled time.
|
|
Project managers should avoid getting involved in doing the work. Managing projects is a full-time job of a Project Manger and even a small deviation can lead to problems. Manage the projects rather than getting involved in it.
At any cost avoid working. |

For Every Project Manager the time allocation depending upon the type of the task is very, very crucial. The tasks should be divided on Urgency and importance. 1. Urgent and Important: Solving the Crises. Handling Disturbances. 25% of the productive time. Day to day routine reports. 2. Important but not Urgent: Planning and allocation of resources. Adopting time tested procedures .Training himself and his staff.70% of his productive time. 3. Urgent but not important: Some meetings not productive. His domestic problems.10% of his productive time. 4. Not Urgent and not Important: Browsing the internet. Some pleasure giving works, amusement.5% of his productive time. This division of the time can bring success to the handling the project. |

I feel creating the plan can help him manage his time more effectively. It will help everyone to know what they have to do and project manager will spent a lot less time dealing with issues due to lack of clarity.

I would recommend all project managers to stop getting involved in coding by going deep into the software development projects. Coding is done by developers and they are one for that job.
