If a project goes in the wrong way, significant redesigning is required in order to obtain the required results on time.By developing a re-engineering process in an efficient way, we can keeping track of the previously established delivery dates. But this re-engineering/redesigning also fails.

What might be the reason behind the failure of the re-engineering process ???

Lack of proper Change Management!

idea posted by Shrikrishna K Pathak Product Development Manager, Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd., Pune

Any Business Process Re-engineering Project needs a strong base of adaquate Change Management to be in place. The basic foundation of a re-engineering project is to re-engineer (most of the times modify) the existing processes. To convince the process owners, a mindset change is needed which demads to have a proper Change Management in place.

The most important, of course, is the drive from the Top Management without which any such project does surely fail!

For a reengineering project the essential components are - Top Management, Strategy, Technology, Training, Focus of Key issues. However even if the rest of the components are taken care of by a great reengineering team, without the involvement of the Top Management in bringing a change across the Organisation, their buy in to the changes and convinincing all in the Organisation, the Project is bound to failure.

Management lacks commitment

When re-engineering is going on, the lack of commitment from the management towards the project may affect the project in the long run because errors are so hard to correct when they are found late in the process..

Agree to this.. as you are given low budget and not given the priorty as a new proj gets

Investing heavily on new technology

idea posted by Srinivasa Rao G Team Lead, Wipro
Spending hugely on new technology while giving little or no thought to changing the organization’s underlying business processes. This is one area where one can go wrong,Not giving importance to the business process which is more important issue  is often far more difficult since it involves invading political turfs and soul searching by the company’s key executives.

Inability to identify key points

Inability to identify key breakpoints in core business processes. Breakpoints are defined as the achievement of excellence in one or more value metrics where the marketplace clearly recognizes the advantage, and where the ensuing result is a disproportionate and sustained increase in the supplier’s market share.

Reengineering strategy was incomplete

idea posted by Ashish Bhansali Project Manager, TCS

When you ask me what is the reason behind the failure I would say :Incomplete reengineering strategy. Because most organizations have a long-range strategy to put in reengineering effort, these strategies may be incomplete due to poor assumptions or lack of attention to detail.

Due to this poor assumptions problems can occur later on...

Lack of training

idea posted by Ujwal Chana Project Lead, Polaris Software

During re-engineering process new technologies are mostly used. And lack of training for the work force can cause reengineering efforts to fail.

With no proper training for the work force, the reengineering effort cannot take an advantage of newer technology.
