We all know that how the number of vehicles are increasing in India at the moment, every month thousands of vehicles are getting registered, and the city space is as same as it was earlier also. And we all know the importance of Public transport in this regard, but even that public transport is not given priority in the first place and people are just buying more and more vehicles due to the bad management of Public transport services, even if metro happens in all the major cities, I dont think the no. of vehicles trickling down will come down for that matter. So to reduce traffic chaos and to reduce Noise and Air pollution Public transport is the way to go forward....but how to get it right?? Please do share  your views on this....

PROPER PLANNING FOR INFRASTRUCTURE

idea posted by Manoj Kumar Sr: Manager - QA, ARCHETYPE GROUP, INDIA

Except some metros the condition of the roads are so pity that even NHs are no exception. Still I wonders how far Govt thinks about when they plan for upgrading the infrastructure like widening of road...making new flyovers and all.....Whether they will calculate how many vehicles would be there say after 5 years or 10 or 20 years like that..

So I think proper planning for the future is required as far as infrastructure is considered

In India ther is 9 cars per 1000 population as compared to USA where it is 960 cars per 1000 people so naturally bigger road space is required since we are the second fastest growing economy in the globe and car purchases will reach the top.

Yes! Proper integrated planning, which includes school, office timing, marketing period etc. so that the traffic load can be distributed overt the entire day for smooth management with same Infrastructure.

Bangalore is facing major traffic problem due to narrow roads and huge residential and commercial development taken place in last 10-15 years or so, there is no scope of widening of roads in blore due to this and this will result in traffic congestion at many places.

coming back to question-

As a example, Delhi as a good road system and carries more traffic compare to other cities bcoz 20% of area is been used for road network in Delhi.

So, proper planning must be done for infrastructure development considering the future use.

Environmental issues needs to be considered

idea posted by Kiran Kumar Reddy Business Analyst, SAP

I mean than granting licence for each and every vehicle, first the Government should consider the environmental issues, whether having not a check on the number of vehicle registrations it is leading to deterioration of the surrounding environments and the traffic scene is chock a block in every major city.

Before planning on expanding the transportation system of any city, the environmental issues need to be considered. Moreover, the best way forward for the Transport authorities to check on environmental degradation, in the existing system, is to switch to public transport with better implementation.

Will to Implement the Public Transport system by govt

idea posted by Onkar Datt Sharma Manager (Technical), Retired

The govt needs to have a will to enforce the public transport system specially in Metros. To day on one end govt shows to improve upon the public transport and on the other hand, the govt issues/allows/ helps the automobile companies to continue/come out with new variants of cars and two wheelers. If this trend continues and the govt and politicians and bureaucrats make up their mind to stop this we can not achieve this. We really do not need so many private cars where an owner has more than one cars

Better traffic management

idea posted by KALIYAMOORTHY Oil & Gas Area Coordinator, Undisclosed

Merely, running more public transport does not warranty good service. More positive steps to be take to streamline public transportation services. Such as:-

* Drivers training (refresher course periodically).

* Awards to best performing drivers periodically.

* Follow of traffic safety regulation meaningfully.

* Endurance of transport (Road worthiness) with meaningful maintenance schedule.

* Clean & nuisance free Road for motoring(well marked, no roadside hawkers etc).

* awareness program by various NGO's & Municipality.
Managing the vehicles at rush hours( Hospital / schools/offices/ business commutations etc).

* Company & Institute to have their own training program for drivers.

* Highways emergency response team at convenient places.

* Controlling two-wheelers in specific lane only.Advise every one to park the vehicle in proper place without disturbing the traffic.

* Transport need to carry only the number of personnel authorized to carry etc.

* Restricting speed of vehicle at strategic point on highways / roads etc.

Ownership and participation by public

idea posted by Niraj S Kakkad Manager - Investments

Public transport is for the public the way forward requires two key steps joint participation in planning and development and sustainable utilization of the provided infrastructure between the public and government, every city has a type of infrastructure which its topography supports e.g. mountainous areas can have good rope ways, areas with more water fronts can have ferry boats, plain and flat areas can have good train, metro, bus connectivity and this planning should be undertaken after taking feedback from the common man who is the main beneficiary of setting up this infrastructure.  Once set up sustainable utilisation will take it forward for this the public should take the ownership of maintaining the transport infrastructure made available by the govt, we have all seen how few amongst us blatantly abuse the infrastructure provided, scribbling in trains, buses, tearing seats, If we all collectively take care sustainable devlpt of public transport will be possible.

What would you prefer to go out then?

idea posted by Candy Barely Aviation student, Zhejiang University

To be honest,I am taking driving lessons at the moment.

I have been longly dreaming driving myself with my own car, which I think would be a great experience.

However, there are too many personal cars there in the streets, which do great harm to the environment.

What I support is  more and more people see the increasing harms and try not do that .

Remember that everyone can make a difference!
