Pension as a third benefit is what is causing anguish to the FinMin. But few people know that this was the legacy benefit inherited by SBI from its predecessor Imperial Bank of India with the assurance of not causing any disruption.
However, Pension as a third benefit is not uncommon in the Public Sector. RBI, Airport Authority of India to cite a couple of examples.
It is time the SBI Pensioners move the Court and get due redressal. Even for serving PSU Bank personnel, every wage negotiation is worse than a surgery without anaesthesia. They spend a couple of years negotiating with IBA, which is empowered to negotiate by the Govt. But the IBA is not empowered to conclude and sign any Wage Agreement. Once the tortuous process of protracted wage negotiation is completed with IBA, the mandarins of FinMin step in and introduce arbitrary changes. Again the next round begins.
What is called for is an end to this charade.
Reg. SBI Pensioners, it is time their Pension gets revised on the same terms as for serving employees. This principle is firmly established now for Government employees.
