Retail is earmarked as one of the sectors which will see nothing less than a revolution in the next decade. Lot of new mushrooming smaller businesses will thrive in the ecosystem created by retail giants like Reliance, Future Group and now Bharti-Walmart. Reliance plans to invest 25000 crores in next three years, 140 crores for Future Group, and Bharti Walmart to invest close to 2 billion by 2014. Astounding figures measures up for one of the largest retail ecosystems in the world. Perhaps the only hindrance is the Govt's decision to allow a cap of only 51% in the domestic market. This is a bid to protect the local kirana/mom n pop stores from losing their business, while on the other hand Bharti's Sunil Mittal believes that this is the short sightedness of the govt since its impeding the employment and training opportunities for lacs of local people. I believe in times to come we would see that cap being lifted by the government.
