Guys who ever haven't watched this video, just watch this video of Shashi Tharoor, I feel you'll be impressed.

India is fast becoming a superpower, says Shashi Tharoor -- and not just through trade and politics, but through "soft power," its ability to share its culture with the world through food, music, technology, Bollywood. As he says, "In today's world, it's not the size of the army that wins. It's the country that tells a better story."

So what do you think people, What attributes will make India a Super power?

Sustainable economic development

idea posted by SHARATH CHANDAR REDDY Business Development Manager - Insurance, I T C Ltd

Bollywood, Music, etc will help the country in getting recognition in the field of celebrities. They cannot make India superpower.

For India to become Superpower in real terms, sustainable economic development is a must. (i) Agricultural development, creating Public Private Partnerships (PPP), (ii) Developing superior manufacturing capabilities (iii) Developing R& D capabilities, (iv) Improving edcuation, healthcare.....all the above with sustainbale practices will make the world look towards India. We need not be in a hurry to be a superpower, once we start focusing on developing India in a holistic way, the status will automatically be achieved.

While I agree with Shashi tharoor's inspiring video content, one needs to look at developing ground realities in India more than projecting to the world that India is becoming superpower!!!

I am sorry

idea posted by Praveen varma Sr Manager, Reliance Industries

Hi,

I am extreamly sorry that I am getting fed up with such idotic subject on a technology related website. I only can appricate that the english of Hon Minister is very good. They can only here to talk big but no action at the ground. Let us take a things which he has talked about in his speech.

1. Beijing Olympic - Yes China has shown its soft power during the olympic games not only in exhibition of the show but also in medal tally. Against this we are just struggling to complete our facilities for Common Wealth Games. Shame on us.

2. TV Channels - Is the growth of the country is depended on the number of channels added up? But what about the quality of these channels and control over their subscription charges.

3. Cell Phone - He has talked lot on the cell phone. He was very proud to say that we are selling 15 million cell phone per month. But I would like to ask from where these cell phones are coming to India? Are they indigenous  or imported or smuggled? I wish to inform you that a large number of cell phones are coming to India from China. I want to ask does such selling contribute to the growth of the country.

4. Why cell phones - Most the people are keeping the cell phones as they feel it increases their security. We give the cell phones to our school going childerns. This is all happening because we feel that current environment is not safe for us and we have to have safety at our end. For the same reason we are keeping the cell phone [apart from official use].

5. Worlds forth largest army - Produly it has been told that we have forth largest army but what is the condition of that army? Most of the time we see some or other scam in the Amry buying? What is our wapon capacity? I wish to inform you that China has the missile which has the range upto New York.

With this detoriate condition of the Army, most of the people are joining the army for their bread and butter.

6. Nuclear Capacity - We have couple of ages old Nuclear power plant. What is the proud in that? What we did in last 20 years to expand our Nuclear capacity? He is happy as USA has recognized this but let me tell you the USA is very smart in this way. They know such thing can make India happy thats why they do that.

7. Fifth largest economy - In purchasing power parity terms we are fifth largest economy but what is the per capita income. In the recent survey it has been shown that our per capita income is USD 1000, where as China is USD 3000, USA - USD 42000 and Canda - USD 40000. If we exclude the income of few selected industrialist then you cant guess what will be our per capita income.

8. Increase in voting polulation - He is proud to say that our Voting population of growing by 20 million per year. Should be feel happy or sad about it?

9. Infrastructure developement - He talked about that we need to do that. What we did in last 5 years when the direct and indirect tax deposits has broken all the records?

He is correct on the SOFT POWER. Yes we have soft power but where is the opportunity created by the goverment to utilize them. This soft power is at their own and there is no infrastructure support provided by the goverment.

So now onward please exclude me from such topics.

Regards

Praveen

EXCHNAGE: EDUCATION, CULTURE & ARTS

idea posted by Makrand Bhave Marketing & MICE, WIZCRAFT International

This is the most enriching speech that I have come across. SOFT POWER indeed has its merits.

EDUCATION: We can actively start EXCHANGE programs where students that the University (S) recommend can be exchanged for students from affiliated universities across the globe ina very healthy manner to not only have their education programs incorporated here but to have a mix of intellect that can find good employment here as well. This naturaly creates a mix of cultures that can be exchangedm adopted and even applied wherever necessary.

CULTURE: Its a very strong bonding area. People are interested to learn and are equally fascinated how the world perceives it and reacts to it!! An healthy exchange will ensure that people cross borders and embrace the nuances and marvel at the way the world bonds.

ARTS: This is an area that really gives you the thrust into the HEARTS of the people the world over. Need not elaborate at all!! Thanks for inviting me to contribute Purvi :))

ya i'm in favour of this sentence ,so i want to start from small sector

70% or more number of population is in village, out of them 45%are unemployed,>75% are illeterate& then focus on woman  they are in most critical condition. the real developement  starts from village which was happened after the establishment of FIs  in village.most of my frendz has given ideas based on urban areas. now India has invested so much amount on domestic sectors which directly depends on rural sectors. so formation of SHGs,SMEs  are the big achivements for india. we can say slow & steadly we can win the economy .

rest other parts which is described as use of mobile for school going children is also require because rate of kidnappings are increasing in every hour so alws be with in parents contact is not bad.

we can also take the old india economy which is converted to good positioned economy this is only due to slow  &  long term patience

I think this will be the biggest attribute that India has to offer at the moment, Talent, there is huge number of talent which needs to be tapped, but then government is finding it really difficult give them ample oppurtunity with limited amount of fund allocations, and it is bad that we are loosing so many talent to foreign countries, if we are able to give the talent the right reasons to stay here, we can see India be super power way much sooner than 2050.

Really Nice video purvi, but Mr.Tharoor has to see some ground realities first and then we can see this soft power be one of the attribute towards India becoming super power, and I agree with your Idea about  talent, where India has huge talent but not enough opportunity, and this is what Mr Tharoor had to address in his speech, and India is young with more than half of the population below 30 years of age, this is will be a beneficial factor for India in coming days.  Thanks for the referral.

Currently India has got tremendous  population of talents, earlier people were talking about the negative impact on the economy due to over population, but we have young population, higly talented pool to change our economy to become the biggest economy in the world in near future.. Big brother US and others are eyeing at India. India become the biggest economy in the world...all is possible bcoz of talents

Channelisation of resources,energies and Talent.

idea posted by malladi madhukumar AGM -MKTG, Andhra Cements Ltd

The speech is quite inspiring showcasing the positive ingredigents of soft power of India and making of India super power.

It all depends upon how the talent, resources and energies  are channelised  and put to proper use by polititians and buracrats (since they posess power) and citizens giving necessary positive support and energy to acheive the required positive results.
