The government's ambitious target of imparting skills to 500 million Indians to increase employment using public and private sector is a difficult task. Deciding on set of skills will be secondary because before that there lies a big challenge of making this merger of public and private sector happen (that too without any scams and scandals). The idea is to train people in various skills so that they will have more oppotunities for employment. This training also includes the soft skil training. So how do you think should this skill development be done?

Engaging with private sector

idea posted by Dipika Das Associate/Sr. Associate -(NonTechnical), ABC Consultants Private Limited

It is not possible to do this only with the help of public sector so private sector will have to come in. The merger of public and private sector will be the most difficult and foremost need for this project.

Through every available means as 500 million is a very very ambitious target. We shoudl use each and every means to bring awareness first and then skills to the common man. Skills I mean as different from literacy. The most important thing is to motivate the wannabe teachers to perform. The Times Group has this "Teach India" movement going and I am amazed at the response.

Looking at NIIT, the way they revolutionised IT Eduction, I am sure Pvt Sector is the only way. NGO's will not be agressive Learn yourself and teach others... (Who has this much of time ? )

It looks to be an better and efficient idea but also it has an risk involved in it, as it will promote the privatization and dominance of private sector over govt of India, but still if it can be controlled then i would say this is the best solution, not only for this particular issue but many other issues can be resolved, (issues related to system)

through NGOs

NGOs have access to the grass root. If supported well by the private entities in extending this knowledge, they would be able to handle the pressure of developing 500 million Indians within the prescribed time, albeit with close monitoring of deployment of finance, trainers, mentors, evaluation based on standards, etc.

It is the better option for implementation of this target.

In my openion each individual having their own skills, Some are good at Communication and some are good at technical. There is no point of teaching all, just we can motivate them to improve their skills. I dont think so its a big thing to teach all.

Start at School Level

idea posted by G A Narayan VP - Marketing, KE Housing P. Ltd.

Start teaching various subjects like carpentary, automobile engg., basics of civil work, plumbing, electrical, etc., at school level itself. Allow the student to choose any one these subject.

Give the student extensive practical training. This way, the by the time he/she completes schooling, the student would have attained a good level of proficiency in that particular  subject and be ready for the world. At college level, give further theoretical and piratical training. Award a Degree for this (not just a diploma). This would be much better than some vague subject that is given as degree today. At least the person would end up in a profession that he/she has learnt instead of doing B.litt or B.A. Economics and ending up as a marketing executive or an admin executive.

This is an actual thing happening throughout the globe for everybody to be very proactive. The intellectual buffoons are still harping on their past glories and achivements, so it is just an eyewash and mere communication to nod your heads. So smart entrepruener would understand the value of time & Money to make it more effective by recoping themselves to be more prompt and active. So considering these factors this could be an added advantage for all the marketeers and potential customers to get their business done on a daily basis. Even if there is any loopholes it could be sorted out within yourself rather than going to authorities for any kind of consultancy to sort out their own problems and insecurity in functioning of the business.

Important tool in the areas of communication business, Encourage the talent and exploit it, If it works on one, It should definetly, provided the person who ideates the concept with proper understanding and realise the final fruit. Secondly, keep the objectives clear in mind, until and unless you are clear in your process of action, you cannot achieve your goals, so It is interesting to identify the talent and equally enjoy the repercussion of the same. Try it if it is done sincerely, efforts will benifit with committed hard work and dedication.

AMBITIOUS PLAN BUT NOT ACHIEVABLE

idea posted by NATTERAJA R. ARIKRISHNAN GM-Projects, Bentec Electricals & Electronics Pvt. Ltd

The target for 500 million is good, but how far it will be successful is a great question mark. Practically speaking, why can't the government develop the existing educational institutions to provide good education to the students through better method of teachings accompanied by the new technologies. In planning it may be anything but the execution part?.. a great question mark. Indians are better planners than executors.

Thanks for the referral Ms.Dipika Das.

Make education and skill development as part of government's e-governance plan

idea posted by Shahnawaz Islam PR & Media Relations Manager, National Institute of Smart Governance
The government has ambitious plans for promoting e-governance in India and is spending thousands of crores for it. As part of its ambitious plan, a lot of facilities/activities will now be done through e-governance. While certain facilities of Income tax department are being delivered online as part of this initiative, there are a lot of facilities/services that still need to be given under various heads. In this regard, the government should consider education and providing of vocational skills as part of the e-governance initiative. The private parties, which are part of the e-governance initiatives such as ILFS, E&Y, SREI, etc should be made to come up with detailed plans on how to use computers and e-governance for skill devt in the educational institutes. Since as per the government's National e-Governance Plan, several private bodies have been asked to build more than 100,000 Common Service Centres in the villages for providing e-services, these centres should be used for skill development and education also, with appropriate software to be developed. (For more information on the National e-Governance Plan see: http://mit.gov.in/content/national-e-governance-plan)

Change the curriculum and start govt sponsored skill dev institutes

idea posted by Jaygopal Raghavan Marketing Manager, Landmark Group

There is an urgent need to change our educational curriculum to include more skill based activity rather than to promote bookish knowledge as it is doing now and to top it more emphasis should be given by the govt. in opening centres to train specialised skills across a broad spectrum. This would ensure availability of a lot of trained manpower on such skills that would ultimately benefit the manufacturing sector. Also its high time a big chunk of the budget was set aside for R&D. Be it companies or governments, Reasearch is the only way forward to enhance the standard of living and bring in continuos betterment in society.

idea posted by R.Hariharan Subramaniam Account Director, (Strategy and Planing), LIVEPOT QATAR, AL Wakhra
Try doing all relevent related activities for your needs on your own, rather than getting it done through somebody or external force. Get your hands dirty, untill and unless you go through the experience, you will never get to know your own stand in this competitive world. You can even avoid overhead cost when it is required. secondly be more prudent and cost concious, money does not grow on trees. Earn your living rather than take a loan for your requirements. Don't get into the category of living on borrowed feathers. Start flying on your own, Even Wright brothers failed umteen number of time before they really started flying. Invent your own wheel of fortune and good luck. Then you can might as well fit into the skill development for this huge population in our country.
