As we know that banning the plastic is no solution to pollution we should have a group of workers who can collect this plastic exclusively for a company who can futher recycle it and thus we can re use the same thing instead of producing new one. The people employed for collecting the plastic should have target based collection and should be paid well enouh. If support can be obtained to circulate that recycled plastic everywhere the project can work well. |

But Sujata, it is happening, and quite succesfully too. There is an organisation called SWACH operating from Pune and now from other cities also. In fact it is internationally recognised recently.
The only imediment seems to be political as the success in organising and uniting the waste pickers seems to attracting the attention of several political organisations who would like to take control over a readymade organisation.
Ms.Sujatha it is true that banning of plastic usage is not practically possible since it will involve several concerns from different segments. So plastic recycling is a good idea which needs some mode of doing in the process with the help of public and private bodies. In other words it requires to stream line for the success. Moreover this will create a good employment opportunities.
Hey,
You might have seen it ,a large number of Slum dwellers are collecting garbages and selling it for petty money. If someone does it in organized way, in collaboration with Municipal Authority, it will benefit the Organizer as well as the Individual working with him.
Every Municipality is suppose to have Waste Management system in place. Any entrepreneur enhancing this into more workable solution will get good rewards.

I work as a trustee in a charity in South London and we have a social enterprise arm. We have trained young people in various work related areas, like Print Processing, Web Design, Textile Printing etc, and invested in machinery and offices to host an incubation facility. This is how it works: The trained young people are allowed to start their own businesses, without capital investment as we have already invested, and we hold equity in their small companies. They run their own companies, often made of themselves, and we take a share of profits they make.
This is making money for the charity. Some businesses indeed don't work, but other make up for it. The social benefit is that we are turning unemployed young people, who would otherwise go into a life of crime, into entrepreneurs, who are not just employing themselves but soon will create jobs and opportunities in the community. One of our young businessmen recently left the incubation facility, where he successfully set up a web design business, and started a Recycling business himself. He has tied up with a recycling company and made arrangements with schools in the area. The school children are expected to donate the recyclable materials from their homes, and the company he formed collects them and send them to the Recycling facility north of England. He makes £200 per tonne of material. Last I heard, he is doing quite well.
This would be an example of our social enterprise spawning another social enterprise.

Often, we think thoughtfully, even though we have advanced so much in lifestyle... still there seems to be lacunae in the system. it is always the literate society involved with it.... they want luxury without compromoise and no botheration towards end results of their action. so i feel that these literate who makes mistakes knowgly should be educated...

1968 Sulabh Technology:
Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak joined the liberation of scavengers’ cell of the Bihar Gandhi Centenary Celebration Committee in 1968 when he was entrusted with the task of finding out an alternative to scavenging. Dr. Pathak modified and developed a technology of two-pit pourflush toilet (popularly known as Sulabh Shauchalaya). He also succeeded in demonstrating the effectiveness of the two-pit pourflush toilet system. Today, engineers not only from India but even from the World Bank have accepted that the on-site excreta disposal toilet system is an alternative to scavenging, openair defecation and unhygienic, unsafe systems of human waste disposal like trench and borehole latrines, in the developing countries of the world.
"Far more people in India have access to a mobile phone than to a toilet, according to a United Nations study on how to improve sanitation levels globally."
–Al Jazeera English
Development and economic growth are huge priorities for India’s government, but according to an Al Jazeera English report, only one third of India’s nearly 1.2 billion inhabitants have access to proper sanitation. This is a serious health hazard for the ‘world’s largest democracy’ – especially for young children – and calls attention to India’s priorities concerning development. But providing adequate toilets for all Indians won’t be cheap.
Worldwide, an estimated $358 billion (£230 billion) is needed between now and 2015 to achieve the UN Millennium Development Goal (MDG) of halving the proportion of people with inadequate sanitation from 2000 levels.

Plastic is such a product which is used in everywhere. So you cannot ban it.But unfortunately plastics are not manufactured as per as hygene is concerned. There are specific guidlines WHO and for pollution control which are not taken care of.Only implementation of laws will not help.It should start fromm manufacturing how plastic will be recycled.

As I think social entrepreneurship does not mean only to educate the people. There are possibilities that the person may not be interested in education. But he will be definitely interested in employment. Hence if we star a organisation which will bring in the work or service from larger company and employe these person on those project. The possibilities are there that some project will need at lest some qualification, that should be imparted so that maximum unemployed will get employment. For example there are many infrastructure development is going on in our country and many big companies are involved in it, if we request them as social responsibility to allot us some work to accommodate these people i am sure they will definitely come forward.
