Few of the medical items like essential drugs are under government control which means that most of the lives saving drugs have been conserved by the government & all such drugs are available at a nominal price fixed by the government.

But such steps by the government hardly effect the net effect of out of the pocket expenses incurred by an average man in India ,government hospitals & network have only covered the 20% of the total healthcare expenses incurred in India.

Government funded schemes like CGHS/ECHS have a standard schedule of charges fixed by the central government for different categories of cities in India & such rate list are applicable for any expenses incurred on beneficiary.

But beyond such standardized practice there is hardly any standards for charging by any common man as there is no defined guidelines on the hospital to charge for services, such system not only makes it difficult for any patient to be sure of ethical price charged it also makes difficult for hospitals to have a standardized charging in their system & thus it just on the mercy of the hospital that how much they may charge for any treatment.

Such baseless system promotes unethical practice and heavily affects the course of treatment chosen by the patient.

I hope that government (state government) should take initiative to fix the maximum price applicable for any procedure & service which will not only control the unethical practice but will also boost the necessary confidence in the patient to undertake treatment in any healthcare system.

Standardising the Hospital Service Pricing.

idea posted by PREM PRAKASH Hospital Administrator, O.P.Jindal Institute of Cancer & Research

I am sure that such system of standardizing the pricing of healthcare services is the need of time as the cost of healthcare services are increasing day by day & unethical practices are all time high.

Such system will support good hospitals that are catering patient friendly cost effective services.

Government should make a common price of the medicines should should be applicable to all the hospitals. It should set a price limit for hospital services beyond which price of the hospital services cannot exceed immaterial of the hospital...

Cross subsidation and DRG codng

idea posted by Santosh Marathe CFO, AHEL

Its crtical to have a meaningful comparables between the Service/Care providers before applying the common Tariff/pricing yardstick. A unit with JCI accrediation or NABL accredition certainly has differing costs strctures as compared to a non-accredited entity. Secondly the stakes for getting qualified and higly skilled direct care providers are also too high for sustaining the Quality outcomes and medical pathways.

The focus should be on undertaking the Activity based Costing for understanding the Input costs for mots of the standerdised procedures and surgeries. Differing price points from differing corporates/patient segments is inevitable with rampant competition and paying capacity of indl segmnet group. Hence rather than worring aboiut lower retunrs for Giovt Bodies/CGHS/Govt Schmes the Unit hsoiuld initiate cost discolines thry DRG coding and standerdising surgical packs alongwith acute credentialing of cases before rusihng for the Knifes and forceps, especially for the BPL and Govt segment cases.

Cheers !

Santosh

Standardising the Hospital Service Pricing

I also agree to have a standardization of  Hospital Service Pricing and it definitely produce the best results and control malpractices and very helpful to the society at a large and as a result of that the last man of the society can afford the treatment rates. The other side , the by that , the Insurance companies are also able to reduce the claim ration which at present around 147% .

By this the cut throat compitition will come in the industry and in that situation, everyone try to provide the best facilities to the patients to stand in the market.

Thus , I think one step in this regard may be more benefited to the society, not only society but as a nation at a large and also increase the Medical Tourism in India which resulted in to increase and growth of the industry in long term.

Pricing strategy to help patients

idea posted by Pravin Dhakane Client Servicing/Key Account Manager, PATIENTINDIA.COM, SAIKOSOM SOLUTION

Dear All,

Hospital industry is service industry so that it is difficult to fix price on service. But, if we are able to make a database of pricing of various hospitals under one roof which is available to common patients and relatives of patients. In this scenario, patients has choice to select the respective hospital service.
