idea posted by Amit Madhav Senior Consultant, GKC
First prepare a disaster plan so that you know what to do in the event of fire, earthquake that could damage the business. So, work up a detailed plan, taking into account as many variables as you can imagine. You should know where you can move your merchandise to safety and where you can reach your insurance agent in a hurry. Preparing a disaster plan should be the very first step.

The disaster plan should not be a secret, make sure your employees understand what they need to do when the worst occur.

Families setup aside certain amount of money for use in emergency situations. Same thing should be done with the business, setting up emergency cash reserves. That way, if something nasty happen to the business, you'll have money available to pay rent, meet your bills and keep payroll flowing without having to resort to layoffs.

Back up data of your computer and keep it somewhere other than your business. Backing will certainly help you to regain the lost data in the event of disaster.

The most important assets will often be lost in seconds in the event of a diaster. Ideally, data should be replicated across physical sites, in most cases buildings or data-centers.

There also needs to be planning done to ensures customers are able to cotinue business as usual, with seemless failure to the backup location. There are many ways this can be accomplished.
