It is great to see Swine flu awareness on Toostep platform, it seems most of them are concerned regarding this, and it is good that we are discussing these things here.  And this made me create this idea contest which has got to do with the Hospitality sector and Swine flu, till now we have had discussions regarding its awareness and precautions and what one needs to do, but then let us start discussing the business aspect of it, how it is affecting the businesses and what needs to be done?

Swine flu couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Indian hospitality sector, just as we thought we were coming out of recession a global pandemic has hit us and this is making the situation even worse than before. Industry watchers see H1N1 hitting the hotel business badly. Hotels are fearing a drop in business travellers and tourists till the situation normalises.

What Hotels & Restaurants / Hospitality Sector needs to do during this situation?

Educating employees

idea posted by Adesh Dalvi Marketing Executive, TAJ

There is spread of this virus, and it is mainly due to lack of knowledge about the swine flu and this is making people panic and are helping in spreading the deadly virus, so educating regardind this to all the hotel employees is the priority, these include educating employees about the virus and its spread, frequent checks of food handlers and specific operational procedures for hotels like gloves, masks etc if confronted with confirmed cases of swine flu. Hotels are monitoring the situation worldwide and following the advice issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and similar entities. This would make sure there is no spread of the virus and cases can be isolated for that matter.

Team of doctors at the venue

idea posted by Nirmal Karan Product/Brand Manager, KingfisherAirlines

Most hotels should have a  team of doctors who are frequently briefing the employees and guests about the situation. And this gives the customers a good feeling with the situation that is out there, and if there is an emergency in this regard one can be assured that immediate and required actions can be taken for that matter.
