THERE IS ENOUGH SCOPE IN EVERY COMPANY TO CUT DOWN LOT OF UNWARRANTED COST & WASTAGE. RATHER THEN STRAIGHT AWAY LAYING OFF/RETRENCHING EMPLOYEES, ALL SUCH POSSIBILITIES SHOULD BE EXPLORED AND IMPLEMENTED. LAYING OFF/RETRENCHMENT/REMOVAL SHOULD BE EXERCISED ONLY AS A LAST RESORT AS NO DOWNTURN IS GOING TO BE PERMANENT AND LATER ON WHEN COMPANY WILL NEED ADDITIONAL MANPOWER, IT WILL HAVE POOR RESPONSE DUE TO POOR MARKET IMAGE BECAUSE OF SUCH UNWARRANTED ACTION.

Yes Mr.Ashok i agree that a company should first see other ways through which they can cut costs rather than just laying off employees. Moreover as you said if they are firing off people just for no reason then that will set a bad image of the company in the market and when the times will improve and they need to hire people, then that will be very difficult for the company as it is less likely that people will want to join that company. So a company should always a give a second thought before firing people and look for other ways to cut costs.

Hire counsellors

idea posted by Gargi Sinha Senior Consultant, Hewitt Associates
Companies can hire counsellors to address the grievances of to be laid off employees and advice them on the prospects of employment.professional consultants who address them are collecting the cvs and assure them of jobs elsewhere in the industry.
