As for now individual lawyers have been kept out of the purview of service tax, But legal firms will have to shell out service tax.The lawyers in the Capital have already been bearing the brunt of the reduction in their clientèle due to opening of the new courts in Dwaraka.. The imposing of service tax adds to their misery.
At this miserable situation of recession when the lawyers are facing downs in their salary, what will be the future situation of lawyers?

NEW COURTS AND EXPECTED TAXATION

idea posted by Ashfaq Shaikh Private practitioner/Lawyer, Legal & General Group

I agree with Thakur. In Bombay also many branches of the courts are opened at locations far from the main branch, which has reduced the work in each center of courts. The lawyers have to give up the matter transferred to another branch since it is impracticable to run from one center to another i.e. from one croner of the city to another. The burdan of Service tax is going to affect the individual lawyers also in near future. Though this way many junior lawyers have been benefitted with briefs which is a good sign. However the reducing work results in increase in fees collection and which will definitely cause it to be taxed a vicious circle wil develop.

Lawyers to face a miserable condition

As to my opinion i think that eventhough individual lawyers have been kept out of the purview of the tax, it is feared that in years to come, they might have to face a huge pay of their income in form of service tax.
