Project Management is misunderstood as GENERAL MANAGEMENT in many cases..!! WHICH IS WRONG!!! Eg. General Management deals with managing routine administrative operations of a HOTEL or CINEMA COMPLEX or HOSPITAL etc. Whereas PROJECT MANAGEMENT is all about handling the UNIQUENESS and TEMPORARY Nature of the Task in HAND within SET CONSTRAINTS. Though General Management skills are offcourse required for good Project Management to occur, General Managers can't be called Project Managers or made to handle PROJECTS without necessary skills, exposure and experience in handling PROJECTS and PM Processes. PM Field is more challenging considering the Voluminous Flow of Money in delivering Products which are UNIQUE in nature..!!

The times have changed.With the rapid development taking place in all the sectors contributing to the national economy and growth ,a global phernomenon,more number of projects are kick starting every day which have to be necessarily managed well within the planned time frame of completion,within the estimated/contract cost and confirming to the quality norms laid down in contract.Projects,therefore, have to be well managed either by the clients or by Project Management Consultants to oversee the contractors performance governed and led by the site and HO project/contract management team assigned to the project.
The prime consideration of award of contract being invariably the lowest bid,the client can not afford to entirely depend on the contractors project management skills and inputs.It,therefore,becomes obligatory/mandatory out of compulsion that the client either has an in built effecient project management team or out sourcing it to PMC professional organisation.Civil engineering construction project involving different agencies is the most challenging task requiring a co-ordinated effort from the Architect,structural and other services consultants.It has to be properly monitored and closely controlled .Project management is a specialised field developed on scientific/practical consideration controling the basic structure of the project parameters safety,quality,timeline,risks ,cashflow & the foremost disputes which otherwise would be impediments to the success of the project.

Project Managers are just simply an elevated, highly paid, and empowered 'Project Administrators', or 'Project Coordinators'.Traditional or large bureaucratic organizations still for even projects, like to hold all the authority and decision making by the Department Manager. View of Architects in the traditional building construction industry- PM's are just another consultant to be paid by the client, which increases the overall project cost and time of the project since everything has to go through the PM before being approved by the client. This view stems form a feeling of insecurity, of being challenged from their(Architects) traditional position of power which is fast eroding with newer forms of contracting.
