Very true. There are various factors responsible for the switch. At different positions factors for change may vary.

One should work at a place where one blends like fish with water. Work should feel like one's hobby with stress limited to the extent necessary for growth of both the Company and self. It can be stated as State of simultaneous Contentment and Dissatisfaction. This also requires high degree of self confidence of being sure that sooner or later i'll find such a place.

In my point of view this is the major cause because when a employee see that his/her carrer is not growing in concern and he is not getting which he desereved. So he look for switch. The other matters are same as mentioned above.

When people have not much choice they will stay in an unsuitable job. But what really keeps people loyal and committed to the Organisation is that they find their own self expression within the organisation. They feel like it is their company and they are working for themselves. If the vision/future/mission of the company is one in which many people can find an avenue to fulfil their own vision/mission people will stay. Even if the money is less and the hours are long. They are working on something that fulfils and satisfies them.
