hello to all, I had worked in heavy engineering works in India & abroad ...so its my feeling that the quality generated in the any where in the world is executed by 90 perecent of indians abroad through skilled labour working abroad or by skilled engineer .Now the quality produce by the labour is only because of the procedure strictly followed by the engineer in production & quality dept now the point is why cannot we follow the same procedure in home town because we are not considering the following points either they are paid less, most of the works are on contract basis & after completion of contract other contractot come & take over there is no training given to the upcoming technician we are not generating the people in india.please to all engineers the basic of improving the quality is to train the resources availiable with us rather than skipping our hands by giving subcontracts. We shpuld have in house people to do quality jobs. thanks for reading |

Naturally home town works are better than high raised industrial buiidings. Is it?
I too agree with Mr Gadkari, because companies think that they are saving huge amount and tension by giving subcons but really companies are losing in all fronts by this, its better to have a strong dedicated inhouse team
Very correctly said by Mr.Gadkari. I am in total agreement with you.

Pradeep i also believe that introduction of new technology in the construction sector is entirely
owner-driven. It is only when they demand quality and are prepared to
pay the price that the contractors would have the incentive to adopt
better technology. It may, therefore, be necessary to introduce higher
specification and technical conditions in the bid documents in order to
encourage adoption of superior technology.....

I also agree with this fact that providing incentives to adopt better methodology will really help in improving the construction work.If the newer methods and technologies are not adopted then its not possible to keep the pace with the quality of the work which is required. Moreover there should be skilled labour who knows and if not then proper training is given to make them able to use and implement those methods or technologies.
What do you guys think?
Yes,i agree with the idea to introduce detailed tender specifications, advanced methodology , tender condition, monitoring during execution etc which may achive only if employer provides better incentives.

efficient and skilled man power, quality&quantity of material with timely delivery, money is back bone of any project, completion of project in scheduled time frame and latest technique are inter related . These are like a chain .As project or construction manager one has to be watchful to know where KAMJOR KADI is i.e.where weakness lies. Apart from this ,each parameter to be analysed as per prevailing condition. |

The most important part of the project management of any project is proper & realistic Planning by an experienced person based on past experiences of similar nature projects. Then scheduling & controlling into the play. Assigning resorces and specially managing the activities on critical path which have direct impact on project completion time/ progress. This should be done by an experienced Project Engineer or person concern. Periodically one should review the progress of project and if it becomes necessary to reschedule the activities/ tasks in order to avoid delay then it must be accordinly done. Some time people may feel to crash the project duration depending upon the time frame and nature of the project. The ultimate thing is time duration of the project because time is money. So one must take care of the same.
Mr.Ram Krishna i agree that the 5 parameters that you have mentioned are important to improve the construction process but what do you think about the lack of proper communication between the supervisors and the employees and how big a part does it play in the quality of the final work.

I feel the poor state of technology adopted by the construction sector adversely affects its performance. Upgrading of technology is required both in the manufacturing of construction material and in construction activities. As a large number of construction materials are manufactured in the unorganized sector, effective monitoring and regulation of the production of these materials to ensure proper quality becomes difficult....

Yes i agree with you that because use of low-grade technology in the construction sector leads to low value addition and low productivity, apart from poor or sub-standard quality of construction and time overruns in projects. The non-availability of quality construction tools is the main reason for this. Besides, the construction sector also lacks information about new technology is what I feel.....

A proper money flow and proper preplanning of the project will give nice result Some of the project reports should be properly planned 1. Progress report 2. Target of percentage completion per project day /week/month aimed at overall schedule 3. Total project cost per project man-hour
Many more should be properly fixed before the work start

THE DEFINITION OF MOST OF THE PROCESS INVOLVED IN CONSTRUCTION ARE NOT KNOWN TO ENGINEERS AT SITE. AND MANPOWER ENGAGED AT SITE. MOST OF THE ENGINEERS ARE RELYING ON GROUND LEVEL WORKERS FOR INDENTS, AND DESIGN COMPONENT PROCESS. BUT THE PRACTIONER NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THE PROCESS THEMSELVES OR FROM THE SUPERIORS INVOLVED TO EXECUTE THE DESIGN AND ITS COMPONENT FOR EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION. WHICH IS LACKING AT EACH LEVEL OF WORK. THE DEFINITION AND IMPLEMENTATION TILL THE WORKER LEVEL OF EACH COMPONENT OF WHOLE PROCESS IS NEEDED TO IMPROVE CONSTRUCTION. |

I feel builder should be sincere to his project too. The main cause of failure in construction is also that the builder collects money from the buyers and invest the money in other new project, as a result the original project become heldup totally. It makes harrassment to the buider as well as buyers too. ALL these type of malpractices are increasing now a days ,as a result both buyer and builders creat lot of misunderstanding and ultimately legal proceedings. In all these malpractices buyers become victim fully. This is also a prime and main cause of recession in construction industry too |

Before starting a project there must be a concrete/ realistic planning & scheduling of the activities/tasks involved in it.It will be better to break the complex/ composite tasks into smaller/manageable tasks, so that success & failure of such task can be easily predicted. The critical activities/ tasks must be identified and the care in respect should be taken by an experienced person involved in the project because these activities/ tasks hamper the project duration. Accordingly they should be managed to avoid any possible delay.Periodically the progress of project should be reviewed and if necessary it should be rescheduled accordingly.

It is a main thing before commencing the project.

Hi to all, I feel there is need to expand the training and skill certification programmes, both in terms of content as well as geographical reach. To encourage such training, incentives may be provided to contractors for funding the skill upgradation of construction workers. And thus we can see better productivity in the construction process. However, there is no institutional framework to impart training at the worker’s level, barring a few initiatives taken by the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) and some companies. There is need to involve the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in a big way with training for the construction sector to bridge the demand-supply gap for skilled labour force...... |
