http://tusb.stanford.edu/wp-content/uploads/mt/too_many_choices.jpg

We have too many options for anything and everyting. Monopoly in market is a term which is forgotten. We have choice evrywhere and still we are never satisfied by what we choose and want to own what others have (though others want what we have).. Its a general topic nothing specific.. Too much to choose from and still no right choice available. Why does this happen?

Confusion

idea posted by Dayanand Deshpande Senior Consultant, Ernst & Young

Its the only obvious answer. Perhaps we don't even understand what do we want and what option whould we go for. In school we have science, commerce and ars and we don't know what will be the future aspects. we buy one tooth aste and feel other is better. We buy tv of one brand and go to a friends place find his tv better. We are confused.

Dayanand very well explained.

Desire to get maximum with minimum cost

idea posted by Praveen varma Sr Manager, Reliance Industries

With much option much feature, we tend to do research on various features along with the costing. With this delay happens due to following:

1. Some time we find cost is more.

2. Some time we find new feature are expected to be lauch so wait.

3. Some time you want to go for one brand but that does have feature which other brand have etc etc.

This has happened with me, when I had planned to buy the LCD / LED TV. Following were the sequance of events:

1. Initially looking for 42 / 44" LCD TV, but my budget was allowing me to go upto 32" (around 2.5 yrs back).

2. The cost came down, so as the cost of 42 / 44". At that point of time I have decided that I will spent around 1000/- per inch i.e. for 44" it works out to be 44000 - 50000/-. But at that point of time the cost was 62000/-.

3. In the mean time the LED has been launched and 3D TV came into market. Thank god 3D got rejected because I did not liked. But choice increased between LCD / LED. But 40" LED was costing 76000/-

4. At this point of time LCD was falling within my budget of 44000-50000/- but I hold up myself as new technology (LED) was there in market but was far away from my budget.

5. During this period some body told me that Plasma has good color and this technology is much superior then the LCD / LED. So got involved in the research of the same.

6. I have been told by many people that Samsung / Sony is good TV and dont go for LG. But the Samsung / Sony was not having some of the feature like 200 Mhz, 200 Watt speaker, Wifi etc. So again it made me to hold the decision.

7. In the mean time LG has introduced FULL LED where as the Samsung / Sony was edge LED. So another problem.

BUT DID YOU KNOW WHAT I DID FINALLY ????

One sunday, after having lunch, we visited Croma, Reliance Digital, Home depot, Vijay Sales, Arcee electronics, Kings Electronics etc. During that day the resolution was to buy the TV which meet our requirement. Finally at 21:30 hours, we have finalized the Samsung 40" LED.

While buying the TV, I just saw Philips sound bar. Asked the price, listen the sound quality and bought it. No research / no second thought / no comparision.

SO IT IS THERE WITH INCREASED OPTION.

Lack of correct knowledge

idea posted by SHRIKANT MANOHAR DANKE Project Manager, Phadnis Infrastructur Ltd

If you want to buy anything / commodity, then you should have the basic knowledge of that particular

thing like tech. specifications, advantages, whether it suits your taste/ style / budget. If you have that

basic knowledge with you , then it will be easy to buy anything i.e. home / car / t.v/ electronic gadgets., etc...................................................................

Thanks for referral , Himanshu.

SWOT analysis

A key tool in the strategic planning process can also be applied to career planning. This tool is a marketing analysis using the SWOT technique.

A SWOT analysis focuses on the internal and external environments, examining strengths and weaknesses in the internal environment and opportunities and threats in the external environment. Imagine your SWOT analysis to be structured like the table below:

Person Can never Satisfied till....

idea posted by Nitin Mehra Writer, Thinker, Technology Seekar

Person Can never satisfied till his state of mind is purely attached to himself. when person is attached to outer things he can not satisfied. like if someone has one thing and he like the thing. he will use it but one day he will be bored, he will want new things. now if he have a choice with many things then he will like many, he will get confuse. choose the one from the manya available with his choice. but again after some days he will be bored. now if a person will attach to itself then he will use the thing only for need not for enjoy.

Need dictates buy & no formal survey is done

idea posted by KALIYAMOORTHY Oil & Gas Area Coordinator, Undisclosed

In such case, the purchase is done mainly to fulfill the NEED. No preliminary survey (mean discussion with friends/users/Advertisements  or even shopping survey etc) is done. Before any purchase, you need to carry out some analysis as to the price, its value for possession, value for use, brands doing well in market etc.. So that, it gives maximum satisfaction to you in all respect.

Options help enhance AWARENESS level

idea posted by S. Muralidharan Executive Director, Knowledge Foundation & Campus Around the Corner

Mind is like a monkey, hopping from one option to another, in the process we tend to enhance only our awareness level. But ultimate choice is what your inner voice offers to you, which props out from your sub-conscious based on pattern of your past preferences, brand, etc.
