Do you have a child who is struggling academically? Often it's difficult to pinpoint why a child is failing in school. Sometimes it becomes a headche both for parents & the child/student too.

So, why students fail??

Poor Study Skills

idea posted by Pravin Kumar MBA student, DELHI SCHOOL OF BUSINESS

Often students have no idea how to study. At some point in their academic life, they realize that the work has gotten harder and they can no longer “wing it.” To truly learn something, a student must first assimilate the information. Teach your child to break down and memorize information using flash cards or charts.

Memorizing facts is an important first step in learning a new concept, but children must also analyze and apply the information. Students must be able to answer the simply questions “Why?” and “So what?” They need to connect ideas to understand facts in context and see their relevancy.

Along  with the Poor Study Skills, the situation of a student lives. mental and health conditions, and lack of guidance are part of the reason for a student fails.

unclear goals

idea posted by sumita BUSINESS MANAGER, IELTS

The main reason sometimes is that they fail to understand whats their priority and what do they want to achieve in their lives and thus develop insincerity and ignorant attitude towards studies and they fail to cope up with studies.

When I was a student i never realised the importance of studying school curriculum or obtaining good marks.I remember asking my teachers "why one has to study" as in real life situation never will anybody use the learnt subjects directly or even its remote posibility of having an application. No teachers gave me an answer which was convincing enough.

Thus "unclear goals", when one doesnt know why is he studying results in lack of motivation to any student to excel in trivial things he/she does in school/college.Ultimately resulting in a "C class" graduate who has to survive competing with others in society. Here capitalist society prefers only "Class A" graduates.

Had the goals set in school days directly corelated  to our day present condition, CTC, owning a house, marrying the most beautiful girl in the block etc.......things would have been all too different. Its matter beyond doubt that "Institutions" or even teachers dont have goals for students.they dont know what they want to create after 16 yrs of education but ultimately its a set back just because student "Knows not why he has to study" and without knowing it he will make a half heartened attempt at everything. (I have ignored kind of students with abnormality/tare zammen par kind, who fail miserably even after studying. The above analysis is applicable to all 60/70/80/85% marks scoring students who are never toppers in class(read university, who never joined IIT/IIM) and achive very less in all walks of life. )

Undefined Goals too are thrust. Question of clarity gets hybernated. Result is present day  chaos.

Lack of Awareness

The student is fail only due to his lack of awareness.

there is no normal student in my knowledge who can not read & remember the things. In this organisation/Institute plays a very important role that student keep his mind towards his goal, but if student is never aware himself nobody can do anything

Poor Organization

idea posted by Sheetal Bhandari BE student, PSG College of Technology Coimbatore

Students need to develop individual organizational skills. They should be able to track assignments in an agenda and locate materials and assignments quickly. Make sure your child has a place at home conducive to homework with materials at hand.

Purchase different colored folders for each class to help your child bring the right materials to the right class. Cover books with similar colors for quick matching.

All the above options are very true. But some time it happens that student is capable but he can not perform well because thier parents have so much expectaions with them that he tried to do well but due to insecureness, thoughts about failureness, Unwilling Subjects he might not do well. Someone Said : The Greatest Barrier Of Success Is The Fear Of Failure. But we should also keep in Mind the thought given by Thomas Elva Edision: "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work."

Declining Attention Span

idea posted by James Hindman Principal, The Hindquarters Group, Inc.

I do not know the particulars of contemporary Indian society, but I am familiar with this problem as it occurs in the U.S. and the developing West.  And whereas there is still much need for clinical evidence on the matter, as it would seem the failure of students today can be closely linked to their declining attention spans.

Beginning in the 1950's, with the advent of widespread television viewing, then with that of video games in the 1980's, and especially with that of partipation on the internet in the 1990's, our (not just children's) attention spans have become noticably shorter.  In fact, the increased frequency of commercial advertisements on television is attributible not only to the avarice of the programmers, but to the simple fact that the programs themselves do not hold the attention of the viewing public long enough to keep them from channel surfing.

Our diminishing ability to focus and maintain our attention is beginning to have serious consequences, and not just in our failing education systems, but in our social relationships and political processes as well.

Thanks for invitation Sheetal

Now for scoring passing marks is not a difficult task for student and also there are so many failities are available to study even though if candidate couldn't present in the class he/she may get the same video on Internet, now internet is so common for student because they become familiar with internet from class 1st. Many time i observed that child are so much competitive when they are in initial step of school when they start interacting with the outside word they become a enemy for their study and school and also the new life style made so much impact on student mind by which they don't want to study any more.

As per me because of stylish environment student liking to do other activities and wasting their time of study. In metro cities parents also busy for their official work they don't have time to look after the child.

This is the fact when 80 students studying in one class the quality of education will definately detoriate. Moreover, exam oriented studies, whether you know the concept or whether you aware about why, what and how it does not matter how much you scored that matters.

It is really very unfortunate and pitty

Excess Pressure

idea posted by Dr Ali Ahmad Medical Superintendent/Director, Surbhi Hospital

We have got very good ideas here, but I feel that today the young are too much pressurized to get better results, to be the best in all activities. We keep forgetting that they have a brain and a body of their own which will go according to the law of nature. We keep pressurizing them to give their best in all fields as we want them to be at the top, at times this excess pressure acts as negative and brings in the downfall.

Lack of Motivation

idea posted by Jenifer joncy MBA student, Christ College Institute of Management

The cause of low motivation is often nebulous. Keep asking your child what is wrong, and keep encouraging long-term goal planning. Modern students are accustomed to instant gratification, not slowly working towards an eventual reward.

Unfortunately, if motivation stays low for too long, you must press for answers, look for signs of depression, bullying, sex, drug use, or video game and/or computer addiction
