There are all sorts of uses for Twitter in India similar to the rest of the world, but, of specific uses like cricket scores that are shared over Twitter and a number of users subscribe to that. Knowing when trains are on time or delayed, Twitter works well in India. This is a killer application in India. People working with humanitarian aid say that in villages where it is hard to get access to information, it can be sent out through Twitter via SMS or a phone. It seems, Twitter wants to expand globally to grow not just where there is most people but also where they can really change lives. |

True, irrespective of any qualm about the hype & type of user base in India; it also happens to be a big potential market...
Reach, utility and available gullible mass populace make India a green ground!! Wonderful Sonam :)
In India the internet users are leaning towards the social networking sites. So, Twitter can find a huge market here.

That is news to me. Twitter has definite plans for |

We all know that India is one of the biggest markets largely because of the user base that can be targeted for any product/service. On top of this India also is a market where the concept of Micro-blogging is still in the initiation phase. In the light of these details we can see the first mover advantage for Twitter. This kind of user base added will not provide more eyeballs but the required posts which is the real asset of the company. |

In India, around 40% of the total population is youth. Every company knows that this is huge figure. The new generation uses the social networks very frequently than any other group of people. I hope this is the reason Twitter wants to grab the Indian market at an early stages. |

I agree the point mentioned in this topic that there is overall hype about Twitter in India and elsewhere as well(and this topic is one of the reasons why I say this). Sending messages across people is facilitated by the mobile phone infrastructure more than anything else not just in India but around the world, so this moronic idea that Twitter has increased this a lot is utter non-sense. In fact what Twitter has done is nothing but decrease productivity of the already dull workforce (made dull by time-waster sites like "Orkut" and "Facebook"). I see no benefit to the people who use these sites just to publish that they have just washed their face or publish their pics of a party they went out to yesterday night. With respect to India being a big market for this site, I wish my country doesn't ever become one. And even factually US and China might be the biggest market, but not India for sure. I hope in future we could have more useful topics to share our views. Views based on our useful experience which could benefit others and shed some light on lesser known topics than on these publicly known things. |

Twitter obviously has trained its sights on the huge user base India has, which is all set to overtake even the US in terms of mobile user base. India lags a bit in micro blogging culture; but it is set to overcome this handicap soon. Once it happens India has lot to offer to marketers, owing to its strength in middle class user base with tremendous purchasing power. |

Now ... Twitter is India ... !! No channel, no site, no medium is International if India is avoided. Now on .. we are free .. free to twit .. announce every steps of ours ... every moments of ours. Now we may leave our productive jobs aside ... our profession aside ... all attentions to Twitter. These we shall do mainly from our Office Desk Tops ... in our work time ... leaving aside assigned jobs, ignoring our customers and other stake holders. Our country may be 'just' developping ... majority of country men may be poor ... yet ... we shall "twit" ... just to copy them who have no jobs in hand due to prolonged recession. Now on, you may know every activities done done by me ... minutes by minutes ( that may mean every moments on Twitter ) .. and U equally do so ... we all encompassing each other ... Oh ... What an Idea ... Sabjee ... !! |
