More than 35% of adults worldwide have witnessed a parent become physically or verbally abusive towards a coach or official at a children's sporting event, according to a joint Reuters poll. It says, people living in the United States (60%) were most likely to witness unsavoury behaviour by a parent followed closely by residents of India (59%).

There is clearly a fine line between participatory enthusiasm and abuse and parents, as role models, have got to keep that in mind and keep themselves in check for the sake of their children. According to the survey, men (41%) were more likely than women (33%) to have witnessed abusive behaviour. People in a higher income bracket and those who were more educated were also more likely to have seen parents acting physically and verbally abusive.

So friends, How Parents can become role models to their kids??

Showing love and concern

idea posted by Prarthana Devi Database Architect/Designer, Leading IT Company

In terms of nurturing children, the most common comment is to show love and concern to children. Children should be told that we love them every day and affection should be shown daily through hugs, kisses and touches. In spite of busy schedules, time for special family fun activities should be made. Also, an effort to meet your child's friends should be made to build stronger rapport with them and to gauge the influence they exert on the kids.

Being Honest and well behaving

Kids always watching keenly and try to imitate their parents. So to being role model for own kids means behave yourself as what you expect from your kids when they grown up. And always keep your promises to them. Dont give any impossible promises.. etc. By behaving well and being honest to your kids, they respect you and they be well behaving and honest people, in future.
