Rata Tata has disclosed that a minister asked his company for a bribe of 15 crores when he was trying to set up a domestic airline in the mid-1990s.  Tata did not name the minister and said the incident took place "10-12 years ago."  He also said that he hopes the matter is not taken up for investigation now because "it could cast shadows on the wrong person."

And when someone like Ratan Tata had to face this situation, just imagine about a normal common man like you and me. Its hell out there for all of us with the level of corruption that is out there.

Every coin has two sides and corruption doesn't happen just because of corrupt officials, Corruption is also there mainly because  people indulge in bribing officials to get things done as soon as possible, may be because people are more greedy hence end up in bribing officials. Its like everytime we are asking how to end this corruption level in India, but what about.... how can we make people stop bribing officials??

Punish even people who are bribing the officials

idea posted by Ayan Choudhury Sr/Principal Corespondent, Leading media House

Just by punishing the corrupt officials doesnt end the problem here, even people who are bribing these officials needs to be taken to the task and punished severly. just because of few individuals being greedy, the officials are habituated to get money for each and everything they do and ask money for everything and people are in a habit of getting things done by paying extra for that work.

Agreed Friends,

Yet I am reminded of an old saying" Agga Daud Piccha Chaud" meaning forever running further leaving the present and past in shambles. A country that is struggling to enforce law to book the biggest of criminals and culprits the suggestion is too far-fetched.

How does one do business? any and every businessman will ask? when this is the only way they have learnt in six decades or longer.............

Yes it is absolutely necessary to punish those who are bribing. The greedy, who wants to get things done illigally or who wants to get favours bribe the officials or politicians resulting in competition with guineine people who are elegible to get favours or their work should have been done according to the policy or law/rules. Government comes out with more and more subsidy schemes and the so called pro-poor programmes where free food cloath and shelter are given or employment is offered even with out any qualification and experience in the required skills. Reservation is another place were people think they dont require any qualification or experience or elegibility for a particular opportunity (employment or livelyhood or enterpreneurship), but only a certificate stating that they are in the reserved category. These very backward people who make hue and cry against Bhramin created gods and worship method and places of worship beleive in these and wants to enter temples or right to practice these rituals and waste their hard earned money. Instead they should come out of these and help punish those indulging in such blind faiths and looting the poor in the name of god. Coruption will automatically end when the need for money ends. In order to end the need for money people should start saving and investing in good opportunities and work hard so that they have enough money to buy whatever they want. All relegious institutions make you spend your hard earned money in relegious rituals, temples and offering to god saying if you offer to god god will give you more in return and loot the poor thus. Have you seen Thirupathy Thimmapa punishing those rich and invloved in the very temple at Tirumala? The root of corruption is in our relegious practice itself. Relegion encourages you to bribe god and you call it Harake/offering. The slogans " Government work is Gods Work", "Work is Worship" is not taken by people in its true sense. Instead of devoting their time in duty they waste their time in performing Puja in work places, They collect bribe for doing work (Dakshina. People have faith in doing Puja and offering Dakshina to Poojaries. Thats why you have to give bribe to those poojaries who does your work. Will God save this COuntry?

If people like Ratan Tata didnot have guts to chalenge the corupt and expose them right then and there, what about ordinary people like you and me? I dont know what is the purpose of coming out now? Is it to encash on such exposure for his benefit now? Ratan Tata should come out and tell the purpose behind such exposure after 10-12 years of incident.

Mr. Laxminarayana Rao before seeing your point the same opinion was rising in my head. You are exactly right and People like TATA and others in the cricket arena who later on come up with these types of claims should be taken to task along with the guys involved in the scandal. We common people will have a better place to live then only

Its surprising that the difference is not obvious to many poeple. a middle class employee pays brinbe to get hsi due tax refund , A middle class retired persono pays bribe to get his hard earned life time saving from Provident fund, A middle class employee pays bribe to get his inflated electcity bill for correction. compare this with Hifh profile industral houses pahying bribes to politicians / bereourcrats to corner cheap telecom licences, Grab land, get the envirment and other solcail lwas bent for them etc etc.

Corruption is always driven from the top as a financial requirements of running the political parties. Today it has degenerated to the lowest levels of individual greed , distorting the entire economic, political and moral fiber in favor of the corrupt and against the competent, fair and just population. This needs to be changed by suitable Political and Legal reforms. Unfortunately, the people at he top are expected to bring these reforms but they only happen to be the beneficiaries and perpetrators of this heinous conspiracy against the people. Who will bell the cat?

software can end the corruption.

we can design a comprehensive software usingg DSS(Decision support system) utilities with a centralised server under the control of President of India & Chief Justice of the country. All the rules and regulations for all the departments in the country will be fed into that system. All the applications will be applied only in online along with soft copies of supported documents. If a application is rejected without a valid reason, all the applications behind this application will be blocked in that particular dept. upon a complaint lodged in online by the applicant if that complaint is not solved by giving valid reason in written to the applicant. If it is not solved in given no. of days the total department system process will be blocked, even not then concerned state ministry, there after central ministry servers for that particular dept. will be stopped. So automatically issue is publicised and exposed to higher levels and the problem needs to be solved. It is very easy to implement. we can build this systems and can use initially in RTO, Treasury, Income Tax offices, thereafter we can expand it to whole country. In this way we can end corruption totally since there is no role to play by the officers in DSS environment at this discretion. To implement this we need budgetary support, parliament decision, so now king itself corrupted why he will implement the same? one has to born, changing the politics like gandhi, take the hot seat once and implement this system thats it a new india is born.

Yes IT Can end the coruption, since IT will bring transparancy and reduce the time required/speed up Goernment work/bring in efficiency in evaluation etc. But introducing IT in Government is not easy because the Politician dont want it. I will give you the example in Karnataka State, in particular Bangalore. Do you know that you can get your property EC in Tamil Nadu online but not in Bangalore, the IT Capital of the Country. You can get much better Info of the State in other States than in Karnataka, being an IT State. It is because the Politician cannot make money through Land scams if IT is fully introduced to bring in transparancy. So it is not the lack of technology it is the peoples will power to become hinest, in particular the politician. So first you must change the politician through all the methods available to you "Sama - Dana - Danda". We have been tryoung so far Sama & Dana, but we are affraid of or using Danda because we dont have the guts to use it, or because we dont want to use it since most of us are selfish, dishonest and corrupt. If we clean ourself first then IT can really help.

As India has a vast population, one of the methods of reducing corruption is through the use of technologies and tools, especially software. If the specific acivity is computerized, then the level of corruption will begin to come down. Even though the software is operated by humans and the rules can be tweaked, if there are sufficient checks and balances, it is not very easy to hack or circumvent the rules embedded in the software. Additionally, if the process warrants that all the activities need to go through the software system, then the process is simplified and the corruption issues will be reduced. Initially, the implementation may be difficult, but with persistence, patience and a vision to succeed, the insurmountable hurdles can be overcome and the whole process will become transparent. Many examples vouch for this aspect - computerization of land records, birth and death records, etc. Additionally, punishment of the actors involved in this activity - the person giving the bribe and the person taking the bribe does not solve the problem, as the root cause of the problem will still persist in the system. The key to extirpating corruption from the societal activities is to change the system by introducing software systems that automate the process and make everything transparent. One of the best examples, which if implemented will ensure the reduction in corruption levels is the setting up of the Unique Identification Authority of India with Nandan Nilekani as the Chairman by the Government. The creation of unique IDs for each and every person in India will make it easy to have an audit trace of every single activity being carried out, where desired, as each and every transaction can be tagged with the unique id. This indirectly leads to the computerization of the process and reduction in the corruption levels. The extent of uniqueness being undertaken before giving the unique ID can be gauged from the fact that various combinations of information and data about the individual is collected (fingerprints, iris prints, etc.) before the ID is generated. This ensures that the system is almost foolproof and it will be very difficult to hoodwink the system. The social security number in the US and other similar systems in other countries in the world coupled with computerized processes have ensured that corruption is somewhat reduced in the developed countries even though it cannot be eliminated fully as humans are involved in all the transactions. However, by adopting an automated approach to this problem, the issue can be alleviated to a great extent. Thanks for the referral, Natteraja.....

Good idea too, but time consuming process. There is a chance to deny that we have not received anything through mail and in case the copies of the mail is shown to the officials and they would reply, we will check up.. To eradicate corruption what is required is the will that I should not give or receive bribes. Further there should be a time frame to complete the work within a stipulated period which should be ensured by the govt. In most of the cases, of course in all cases, there is always a considerable delay from the dept officials anticipating the bribes/gifts/compliments etc. Thanks for the referral.

The way people have become corrupt gives a very clear indication that corruption may exist in India for ever as hitherto no effort has been taken to stop this cancer.so many scandals have come to surface and no concrete action has been taken. may be people at the lower rung were taken to task and punished.the mighty and influential are left scot free.many of us also have started compromising that we have to grease the palms of people concerned to get our things done.

Tata enjoyed monopoly for all these years. The great grand father GRD supported India in the industrialisation process under Nehruvian era. Around 1955, TISCO wanted to enhance the production in Jamshedpur. They firmly believed in American technology and hire Kaisers, USA, ignoring indigenous talents, like, Vishveshwariah. They started off with a budget of 65 crores and ended up in 125 crores, still short of 2million tonnes (1.9 million tonnes) originally envisaged. Today, in every segment, they have level-playing players, viz., Reliance, Bharti in Telecom space, and Mittals. To push their point, they require PR agencies, which was not required earlier. Every child knows in this country that without money and muscle power, no politician can sustain his interest. Therefore, corporate heavyweights use this as a method to prosper - its an investment made by them in elections for future exploitation! Nothing new about it. Why after 12 years of silence?

Political situation in india has changed in 12 yrs .. 15 yrs back people know leaders only who had high image . That time small leader`s or minster`s had big change to grab money coz there impopularity in public no one asked them the reason behind making money and parllely they have Govt power in hand , if Ratan Tata would have rasied issue along back , Politications in india would have stoped Tata`s growth plan`s. Better example Nano Car Production plant issue in westbengal !!! why leader did`t allowed it happen !!! why he moved to Gujarat ??

If each one of us pledge not give a bribe and continue motivating other to dd the same, i am sure at least in 5-10 yrs we will be able to eliminate corruption. I also agree with someone who has remarked "Shame on Ratan Tata for not exposing the politician". If such eminent personalities take a back seat, then corruption would indeed rear its ugly head at every turn. Indeed shame on you Ratan Tata. We didnt expect this from the inheritor of the TATA clan !

FIRST HIGH DRAMA AND HAND AND GLOUSE

idea posted by sudhakar BUSINESS CONSULTANT
Tue, Nov 16 11:30 AM After forcing the DMK's hand and getting A Raja to step down as telecoms minister, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi are likely to attend the wedding reception of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's grandson, Dhayanidhi Alagiri, in Madurai on November 18. The move is being seen as an attempt to soothe and reaffirm ties with the southern partner. Congress sources on Monday said both Sonia and Singh were scheduled to travel to Tamil Nadu to attend the ceremony on Thursday. Dhayanidhi is the son of Union Chemical and Fertilizers Minister M Alagiri. Accompanied by DMK leaders T R Baalu, Textiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran and Tamil Nadu Deputy CM M K Stalin, Alagiri had handed personal invites to the two last month. The trip assumes importance as it will provide an opportunity to the Congress leadership to remove perceptions as a fallout of Raja's resignation. Significantly, the indication that the two leaders would meet Karunanidhi this week came even as Singh today opted to hand over additional charge of the Telecom Ministry to HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, instead of letting another DMK nominee in the Union Cabinet take charge. Sibal now has Science and Technology as well as Telecom to look after besides HRD. However, Congress sources said not much should be read into the decision, asserting that the move was a temporary arrangement till the next reshuffle of the Union Cabinet, which could take some time. The Congress, in fact, sought to put an end to the matter of Raja's resignation by refusing to entertain questions on it. "There is a probe process on. The CAG report has to be tabled in Parliament. Let the process be complete," party spokesperson Manish Tewari told reporters. He added that Raja had already responded on why he had taken the decision to step down. Meanwhile, the DMK, which did not appear to have been informed about the move to shift the Telecom portfolio to the Congress kitty for now, did not seem to take exception. Suggesting that it could be a "stop gap arrangement", the DMK parliamentary party leader, T R Baalu, was quoted by PTI as saying: "No one has any say on the issue except the Prime Minister. As such, our leader (M Karunanidhi) has not given any name to succeed Raja to the Prime Minister
