Mumbai, the island city and the city of dreams!! Well not so dreamy anymore right?? For a place like Mumbai where the growth cannot be horizontal anymore, its the way below or the way up... above or below the ground :)) Apart from the huge catchment that is called Powai lake Mumbai does not have any other significant catchment area for rain water to be collected and used for supply to the city. There is a huge green zone called Aarey Milk Colony, Another patch called the Sanjay Gandhi National Park and vast lands on the eastern suburbs that may or may not be marked as salt pans, which are probably available. The BMC has to take a harsh look at its own policies and take a conscious decision to convert some of these into a catchment. If we lok at it closely the eastern suburbs always receives more rainfall than the western because of the way western suburbs are developing!! I know it maynot be as simple as I have sounded it out to be, but whats the harm in looking at it???? |

One can go for Water sensitive Urban design..where the entire city's infrastructure is built where one is able to harvest rain water and use for basic daily purpose...and then recycle water which is used daily in the households later for watering and other purposes and not for drinking by this we can save lot of water and be less worried about water problems anymore.
yesterday it was waterlogging in bombay , and in north we are still praying drops of rain for our poor farmers.
bombay is low lying ::: all the rain water from low lying areas can be channelised in to water bodies as identified by makrand. and processed and made potable :::
or better you got the sea ::: of what better use reverse osmosis can be :::
we gotto learn from the arabs :::
the project can be financed by imposing a cess of 1 % on industrial houses
and .001% on salaried....
i think it should be a workable one :::

At present we are having dependent on rain and our dam sites at which we collect the rain water, river water. If rain delay its schedule we became to cut the use of water by 10 to 50%. Why we can not become indipendent? We do have the technology yet we are not going to use it in right direction? India is having lage area surrounde by the sea. There is technology by which we can treat the sea water and turn it into the drinkable water which will cost 7 to 10 paisa per liter as i have read once apon a time . Why we are not going to use these type of technology?? |

It is a fact and every one knows that WATER can NOT be manufactured economicically in factories. Similarly desalinating sea water and making it potable water may not be a good solution for "water crisis" as it involves huge investment and other allied practical difficulties. [However desalination plants can quench the immediate thrust of people-a short term solution]. Even when I was on board "Sagar Kanya" an Ocean Research Vessel [ORV] we were advised to use the desalinated sea water very judiciously. So,
What I mean to say is thnik of weather modification. By proper weather modification effort at TROPICAL AREA constant rainfall may be assured. Further,as all you know that the prime source of pure water is rainfall, weaher modifications in making rain, FALL constantly throughout the year must have to be viewed as one option.

All over the world various technical aspects should explore collection of water in general and potable water in particular. Conservation and preservation of pure potable water is must in all developing country like India where population growth is increasing year by year. Conducting Awareness camp, training programme, workshop , seminar on conservation of Environment is a need of hour. As per previous knowledge only about 1% water is used by living things of universe. |

This is one of the good options to overcome this situation. Government should do it compulsory to the developers at the time of construction.

I firmly agreed with the argument that bad performing employee should be retain. When company is going to bad condition, the employee is not responsible as it is team work. The HRD of company should think about the worker who is bad performing. Second... |

I will like to add Govt must construct a power plant on itself only instead of giving subsidies to people. The land of desert like Rajasthan and kachha may be used where the intencity of sunlight is more and sunlight is available for more time of the... |
