Ways to decrease fuel consumption

On the whole increasing the the use of public transport facility is a wise choice. Also the vehicles need to be maintained regularly and properly.

I agree with Jabir on proper maintenance of vehicle. These are the suggestions one can make: 1) Proper tuning of engine, and go for regular maintenance of vehicle as per schedule; 2) When alone, try to use the public transport system 3) Avoid irregular speed, and stop applying brakes now and then 4) Budget your monthly spending on diesel and when it reaches the threshold limit, apply restraint. 5) Take four-wheelers for long-distance only, for short distance marketing, use two wheelers, or even bi-cycle. 6) For Public Transport Departments: They hardly get time to service their vehicles due to demand-supply issues. They should find all the probable ways to contain the expenditure of diesel. They should seek suitable additives to be mixed with the diesel for exercise savings as far as possible. 7) Truck owners and taxi owners should also maintain their vehicles properly in order to reduce the consumption. Above all, we should immediately find an alternative to this frankestine monster.

Every vehicle manufacturer specifies a particular range of speed in which the vehicle gives the maximum fuel efficiency. Everyone needs to follow that range while driving.

Switching off the engine on red lights is another way to prevent the wastage of fuel.

It is optimized when ideal driving conditions are maintained. With chaotic traffic conditions its a uphill task. It depends on driving habits, vehicle maintenance and whole lot of other aspects of engine/power train design. On the whole if fuel consumption is to be curtailed efficient public trans port system should be in place and we should deter people from using personal transport(unless deemed very necessary)

I agree with Rathin, increase usage of electricity, solar energy or wind energy for as many processes as possible in our daily life. We can then reduce our dependance on fossil fuels and so directly conserve it for future generations.

It has been observed that recently people have started using two/four wheelers for visiting even nearby locations.When the whole world is thinking of conserving fuel , why not we use conventional mode of transport like cycle /rickshaw in those cases, by reducing fuel consumption.This will also reduce the polution level also. If conciously we can follow the practise , definitely we will be benefitted.
