Ways to make education interesting

Understanding and Application should be at the core in what is taught.

Demonstrating the application and explaining theory. Allowing experimentation under guidance and forever encouraging open thought process. Allowing open book consulting with developed understanding rather than forcing to memorize without reason is a lot better approach.

Schools and colleges should make the class more interactive by conducting some activities. These activities should help students to build their confidence, knowledge, attitude and skills. This will make education more interesting and easy to learn.  

So innovation is needed even in education .......  

Two way communications is one of the ways to make education interesting.  Teacher should encourage student to ask more and more questions and give them confidence to build up a wild imagination. Two way communications ensures that a student is capturing what is being delivered in the class. An interactive session/lecture certainly makes it more interesting while students assimilate the delivered knowledge.

There are three aspects to bee taken in to account when we adopt any system/method to make education interesting:

1. A child should be made to beleive firmly that only education can make an individual perfect and acheive some thing in life through real life examples. Unfortunately people without formal education have acheived and reached greater heights in life particularly in developing and under developed economies. Also one should know what is education - is it the ability to read, write, speak and understand and proficiency in some form of art, science and literature. or graduating by attending a formal school and the higher education in a university with the aim of improving your capability to earn or acheiving some thing in life for personal satisfaction and pleasure?
2. Once the child / individual knows the importance of getting educated either in a formal school/college or in the lifes college then half the job is done. Then comes creating an atmosphere of learning. To create an atmosphere of learning one need to understand the child's psychology which may vary depending upon the family background and atmosphere geographical location and the socity where you live. School and home atomosphere and the socital atmposphere shoul be complementary to each other and improve with the hel pf each other to creat a reasonably good learning atmosphere. Many schools have dedicated departments for parent councelling and if the child becomes dull in the school then the councellor knows there is some thing wrong at home or in the neoghbourhood and will be able to help the child as well as parents to come out of such situation for the sake of childs education.
3. Once you have reasonably good learning atmosphere at school, at home and in the neighbourhood then comes how to make the subject interesting and easy to learn. What is the child's capacity to grasp a lesson/subject, his interest in certain subject and lack of interest in other subjects, how to make him take interest in almost every thing which comes in his way so that he will have options available later to chose.

Unfortunately our education system does not provide any of these and socity itself is a bad example. I hasppen to hear to a noted film director who was invited to a college saying while addressing the students that he was veru notorious and was not attending classes at all and to day he has every thing in lefe. Look at the qualifications of people contesting the elections. A large majority of them have even failed to go beyoond 7th standard, but are wealthy. They cannot understand our constituion, they can be considered illiterates for all practical purposes since they cannot properly read write or speak and understand a language and they are the puppets of their leaders and just raise their hands to vote on any bill or policy or law. SOme such people have occupied even veru high offices. This gives wrong signals to the child. If a child asks you why should you ask him to go to school and study when so and so has not gone to school and ruling us today or MD/owner of a company (because he has invested money).

We have lots of good examples too. Dr. Shivaram Karanth (Noted Kannada Writer) only had formal education up to intermediate level but proved that one need not go to school for getting educated and acheive some thing in life. He wrote several books for audults as well as for children including in science experimented himself on how to make education interesting. produced several PhD's and has students all over the world.

All the ideas mentioned (Above) here are really good ones. Add to these some more points given below - 

Teach the Teachers

• Make it mandatory for the teachers to undergo periodic tests of IQ and EQ. EQ is very important. If a teacher scores more then he/she gets better promotion and pay prospects.

• They should also be taught new teaching techniques.

• They must be sensitized to “feel the pulse” or “understand the real emotions and feelings” of each and every student.

• They must be taught to find and bring out the interest and hidden talent of each and every child.

Make Hobby centric teaching processes

• Encourage child to take up a hobby and put a teacher to work along with the child or a set of children on this/these hobbies.

Teach to Learn

• As per Edward De Bono’s philosophy – teach a person to learn and he shall keep learning. He would find it fun to learn and learn more. This is when learning becomes more of fun than sweat and work.

• Teach to Think…. And think differently

Improve School Infrastructure

• Make it mandatory for parties (School owners and promoters) to follow all the prescribed (Like minimum 5 acres of land for a School, playground, proper lab facilities, etc., etc.) norms before giving recognition to schools.

• Have better prescribed designs for schools buildings and class rooms.

• Provide locker facilities. This would help reduce the child’s burden in carrying large school bags.

Give importance to Mother Tongue at the Primary School Level

Pay more to teachers

• I heard someone mention that in some small nation in Africa the primary school teacher gets paid a lot. It is they who help in building a strong foundation for a child’s future.

• Make School Education Very Less Expensive and College education very expensive. Only then there would be a value for a degree. Only then deserving candidates would enter college.

All the above points are more focused at the Primary School and its Teacher

Unless more resources are allocated to make the academic environment more efficient and welfare oriented, academic life will be a night-mare for Indians.

THE CURRENT SYSTEM OF EDUCATION GIVES VERY LITTLE SCOPE TO LEARN ANYTHING FOR LIFE OR JOB UNLESS AND UNTIL ONE CHOOSES A PROFESSIONAL COURSE.STUDYING HISTORY,GEOGRAPHY ETC IN DETAIL AT THE SCHOOL LEVEL DOES NOT SERVE ANY PURPOSE.CONTINUING THE SAME AT COLLEGE LEVEL ALSO IS A CRIMINAL WASTE OF TIME,MONEY AND ENERGY.NET RESULT WILL ONLY HELP ONE TO ADD 2 LETTERS AS SUFFIX TO ONE`S NAME.FOCUS SHOULD BE MORE ON SPECIALISED SUBJECTS WHICH WILL HELP ONE TO SEEK A JOB AT LEAST FOR SURVIVAL. SYLLABUS PRESCRIBED SHOULD BE MORE OBJECTIVE AND QUALITATIVE GIVING OPPORTUNITIES TO HONE ONE`S SKILLS.

Infrastructure is important. Most of the schools are very conjusted & no proper ventilization. If classes have proper air & lights it will also make good enviorment for students. Even most schools have no proper drinking water & toilet facilitiy. If we provide proper facilities to students it will also make educational enviorment. Teachers must be friendly with students. Teach with fun & healthy manner. Try to uderstand the problems of students.

A good simulation with support of experienced practitions and a debriefing with feedback from all participants and experienced practitioners is the most effective way of learning.

It has many names like accelerated learning, project based pedagogy, task based learning, experience based learning and action learning. A good simulations is also a bit more because there is a competitive element, where one project team has to collaborate with other teams and compete with other teams as well.

The military calls it artificial experience and it seems to be able to prepare inexperienced soldiers for war in a relatively safe environment. Many young people spend hundreds og hours in these simulators, when they participate in Role Playing in the real world and online.

You can also see it as Game Shows on television like American Idol, Master Chef, Hell's Kitchen, Paradise Hotel and many more.  

Hello Pradeep, Ways to make education interesting. This we should start from the school itself so that from the childhood it will be easier to learn by demonstration and experimenting. This will open up the thought process and to urge them to new things in their life. Also this will help to identify the interest in core subject and to develop the skills further.

Education should be made interesting by having interactive sessions and discussions between Teacher and every student of the class.Each student must be made to believe that Education is only way by which a person can stand out from the rest of the crowd.There should be debatable sections, interactive sections and face to face qsn answer sections in the class.Each student can put up his/her personal contribution,ideas in a particular top.This will make education more participative and also will mould an individual for his future.
