According to me favoritism happens when an employee gets the praise which he/she doesn't deserve. This happens a lot in the place I work & many of my friends are a victim to this... |

When the talented and result oriented individuals are not getting their due share.
It is unavoidable at any work place & in every industry. I support your views, Diya.
The boss should favor to every body to avoid favoritism.
yes i totally agree with you if not how do we find so many undeserving people/inefficient people in high echelons.

The boss (immediate higher-up), usually an incompetent person, has to put down one of his subordinate in front of his (i.e. the bosses) higher-ups so that he is able to maintain his own position in the organization in spite of his inabilities and prevent his subordinate from getting noticed by the others and get promoted. For this, the boss puts down the efficient subordinate and at the same time showers undue praise upon another undeserving subordinate. This way the top management does not come to know the skills and talents of the efficient subordinate and the bosses position is secure. Normally carried out by people who have fear. |

Very truly said Narayanan.as you have rightly pointed out incompetent persons usually do this to protect themselves.Poor subordinate is made a scapegoat for no mistake of his or for the only mistake of having an absoloutely incompetent Boss.

Thanks,Diya.Actually i had no compound word to differentiate the work place favoritism.So i resorted to long phrase to be pin pointed. W F has many takers,but it has negative affect and spoil the workplace discipline. |

It is hard to find right talent in yourself and one needs to jump form one field to another to know what are you good at and where can you stay. |
When emotions get involved the decision can become partial. Though it depends on what kind of decision is to be taken. We can never say that involving emotion would be good or bad. It will all depend on the outcome. |
