Its always tough to predict the future, and that is all the more true when talking about the web.  The internet continues to evolve so fast and in so many directions, due in large part to the various social media tools, making the web accessible to  people who never dreamed being part of it.

What are your insights on the future web trends in 2010?

Common services would be mostly online

idea posted by Siddharth Sarawgi CEO/MD/Director, Innoversant Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
Citizen services are going to be increasing adopted on online media, and internet penetration would make strong inroads in rural areas.

Quite right. It is already happening, though it is a challenge to manage it rural areas. With illiteracy prevailing over more than 40 per cent of the population, the need is to introduce computer learning (preferably under public-private parnership). Once it is done, India will be no more the same.

website branding

idea posted by Mrigena Ray Sales/BD Manager, IBM

The Internet is becoming the central resource for branding and marketing communications.  Website messaging still has a long way to go with most Websites using various forms of “Welcome to Our Website” or cryptic tag lines as key messaging.

Social Media

idea posted by Suhel Khan Chef @ adappt

I predict heavy usage of social media channels by businesses seeking larger and closer presence on the web. I  am aware and also expect some cool social media analytical tools and marketing companies with focused services in this sphere.

And i am betting my money on this.. :)

Cloud Computing, Web 2.0 & IPv6

idea posted by Ravikumar B.Sc student, Dr.NGP arts and Science College

With the Introduction of Google's Chrome OS the software giants are moving from traditional computing to the cloud Computing.

With the invention of Web2.0 the newly created websites and social networking websites provide more interactivity and features(RSS,Wiki,...) to the users.

In 2010 IPv6 protocol will be implemented worldwide. So there will be some buzz abut the implementation and security features of this protocol.

I agree with other ideas such as Website branding, common serviceses mostly online, towards mobile, applications always connected to the net, and social media etc,, which are all related one other.  I decided to support this because this idea encompasses the best of the overall web/Internet trend in 2010.

I would say that there are 2 pillars in this idea.  One is Web 2.0 technology that enables social media, which is becoming more vital in web branding and categories especially in mobile, gaming & virtual world is expected to grow, as is included in one of my blog article.

Vol.5 - What Social Media Ecosystem Does Web 2.0 Realize?

http://megoyanagi.thoseinmedia.com/2009/10/24/what-social-media-ecosystem-does-web-2-0-realize/

The other is cloud computing which is accompanied by common services to be avaiable online anywhere meaning web service to dominate, more mobile devices & applications,  thus truly ubiquitous networking society, which is better accomplished with wireless access growth.

And although I am not an expert in technology I understand that IPv6 technology supports cloud computing & web 2.0 technologies.

Google Wave.

idea posted by Radhakrishna Marar Business Analyst, Oracle

I think the google wave would be the next trend. Google announced new GOOGLE WAVE on May 28 2009. It is a new model for communication and collaboration on the web, coming later this year. A wave is equal parts conversation and document. A wave is shared. A wave is live.
In Google Wave you create a wave and add people to it. Everyone on your wave can use richly formatted text, photos, gadgets, and even feeds from other sources on the web. They can insert a reply or edit the wave directly. It's concurrent rich-text editing, where you see on your screen nearly instantly what your fellow collaborators are typing in your wave. That means Google Wave is just as well suited for quick messages as for persistent content — it allows for both collaboration and communication. You can also use "playback" to rewind the wave and see how it evolved."

Wireless access growth

idea posted by Leena Pawar Tech Architect, IT Infotech

Wireless access will grow beyond the coffee shop to just about any place that people gather.  This will drive website visits up and also the need for websites to be easily viewed from a variety of devices.

Web services continue to reach out to new areas. New applications are introduced almost every day. This is happening despite the current hold the print and electronic media have on the common mind. As the services continue to expand, it is for all concerned to see that negative trends did not eat into this process. Vigilance needs to be the watchword in the web world.
