Increase RAM size & Storage capacity

idea posted by sumitra dutta Consultant, XYZ

The most simplest way that I know by which we can increase our PC speed is by increasing the RAM & storage capacity. This will enable all the programs to run smoothly & The overall performance increases.

Thus programs that eat more space run more smoothly & faster, which saves a lot of time.

Free up disk space

idea posted by Leena Pawar Tech Architect, IT Infotech

I agree to Sumitra, & beside that we can also free some disk space to make our PC fast.
The Disk Cleanup tool helps you free up space on your hard disk to improve the performance of your computer. The tool identifies files that you can safely delete, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files.

Use Disk Cleanup to:

    *Remove temporary Internet files.

*Remove downloaded program files (such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets).

    *Empty the Recycle Bin.

*Remove Windows temporary files such as error reports.

*Remove optional Windows components that you don't use.

*Remove installed programs that you no longer use.

*Remove unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore.

Much more disc space available then you will observe speed  is good. For good performance you have to keep at least 10gb free in drive where you have installed the windows OS.

On the other hand if you think you need more speed then RAM, processor & at last the multitasking speed of hard disc must be very good.

Stop unwanted services & Keep services in manual startup mode

idea posted by Surya Prakash Pandey Solution Architect, Telco, IBM India Pvt. Ltd.

Most of the suggestion and idea produced here are really appreciable. in addition to all these i would like to share some experienced points

Stopping unwanted service frees your system JVM & leaves more paging possibility for other services or application which requires them more. also as a best practice one can keep most of the services in Manual startup mode so when these services required . also try to avoid keep open internet browsers as it takes considerable amount of memory which can be used for other important services or application

To stop unwanted services just follow steps for Windows operating system:

1] Start Menu

2] Run

3] Type "msconfig"

4] Choose "services" menu

5] Click on "Hide microsoft services"

6] At last deselect the unwanted services.

7] Apply and restart computer to check performance.

Antivirus Softwares

idea posted by hardik Vagadiya Technical Recruiter, Modern Ballistic Solutions

Viruses are the most unwanted applications for our PC. It reduces the speed of our PC, not only that they are too much harmful for our PC. so that we should use the Anti-virus  software that cleans all viruses in our PC and make it fast. But it is desired necessity that we should not use pirated versions for Anti-virus because they can't perform well to clean viruses so use genuine (License version) of Anti-virus software that cleans our PC and makes it Faster.

Basically by increasing the RAM size we can increase the speed but still there are lots of on going processes are there which occupie RAM so our pc speed gets slower we have to stop that unnecessary ongoing processes from task manager and we have to also takecare about the startup processes as well we have to stop that by using ccleaner or revo uninstaller software which is freely available on internet TRY IT OR CHANGE MY NAME FOR DETAIL CALL ME ON 07827283113..

u can also increase the speed my incresing the size of cache memory so that processor has not to search the whole processes again it will direct restore the process from last session from cache memory instead of searching the different memory segments

Keep your windows open to throw it out when warranted!

idea posted by S. Muralidharan Executive Director, Knowledge Foundation & Campus Around the Corner
Gates has named his great operating system as "Windows" symbolically asking you to keep your windows open to throw your system out when you feel troubled! Jokes apart, Windows OS is a resource hungry operating system and is vulnerable to all attacks as the hackers find the way to peep into this OS so quickly, therefore, forcing the company to come out with patches every now and then. Optimise your resources in order to spruce up your system. Please learn the nuances of cleaning the history of the web pages visited, cookies removed, stop the services that are not required to be started automatically, delete information stored on exceptions occured in os and applications used, and periodically scan your system for malicious worms, adwares, etc., arrest pop-ups, not opening attachments of unsolicited mails, scan all the attachments before downloading, do not allow plug-ins and activeX controls automatically, use firefox or google chrome browsers in case IE gives more trouble, enhance virtual memory by right clickling My Computer go to Properties, goto Advanced option, again press Advanced tab in the Performance Option, click Virtual Memory Change button, add paging file size in both minimum and maximum depending upon the availability of free space in the hard disk. There are many more such tips you may like to apply.

Use Registry Cleaner.....

idea posted by Rahul Singh B.Tech/B.E. student, Lovely Professional University
The way to make Windows run faster is to fix the problems that make it run slow. Many people try and "optimize" their computer to get it to run faster.... but the big reason why computers run slow is because they have errors or problems that make the system unable to cope with the tasks you give it. That's why many new computers seem to run faster than aged computers - because new computers don't have nay errors / problems causing them to run slow. If you want to speed up your system, you first need to fix any errors that are causing the slow speed. This is where many people slip-up... because only computer technicians seem to understand exactly what causes Windows to run slows how to fix it. The biggest cause of your computers's slow speed is down to a part of Windows called the "registry". This is a central database for your PC which stores the setting and options that Windows requires to run reach day. The registry stores all sorts of details from your latest emails to your stored passwords; and is consequently used 100's of times each time you use your PC. Unfortunately, the registry is also being saved in the wrong way & corrupted constantly, which makes your computer unable to process the files it needs, making it run slow. The fastest, most effective & most reliable way to make any Windows PC run faster is to first clean out the registry with a powerful registry cleaner. Registry cleaners are programs which scan through your system and fix any of the errors that often cause it to run slow... and because many people use these tools, there are a lot of them around. The best way to make your PC run faster is to use a registry cleaner that's able to fix the most errors inside your system in the most reliable way. Registry tools such as "Frontline Registry Cleaner" work extremely well to fix the largest number of errors on your computer, and removes junk files. The computer speedup trick that many people are now using is to use a 'registry cleaner' to fix all the problems that are making your system run slower.

Boost up ur pc speed......

idea posted by Rahul Singh B.Tech/B.E. student, Lovely Professional University
The list below describes the top ten ways you can speed up your computer through either general maintenance or hardware upgrades. I tried to list some things other than just the obvious ones most places always list. Now there are of course many more. First Off, Install PC Registry Cleaner and let it scan and optimize for you. This will save you loads of time and really give your computer a boost of energy! 10. Check your initial hardware for possible memory, CPU, or hard drive upgrades. 9. Insure your paging files is set to one and a half times the size of the amount of ram installed. If you are using 2 gig or more of ram memory simply turn off the paging file. (To review your paging file right click my computer and choose properties -then choose the advanced tab – Then select the performance settings-slect the advanced tab and modify the virtual memory file size) 8. Run monthly system maintenance such as disk cleanup, disk check, or disk defrag. 7. Clean out your temporary internet files and cookies. (To do this open Internet Explorer and choose the tools menu- Select options- on the main page you can emty the temp files and delete the cookies.) 6. Empty the c:\windows\prefetch folder. 5. Scan your system weekly for spyware. 4. Delete any unused programs by using the add/remove programs utility. 3. Groom your Windows start up file by using the msconfig utility. (This can be done by going to start\Run and typing msconfig then select ok and choose the start up tab) 2. Update your device drivers. If you are using an OEM computer simply visit the manufacturers website for updated software and drivers. If using a custom built computer you will need to visit the hardware manufacturers support site one device at a time to obtain the latest software. 1. Turn off unnecessary services in the services manager.(To access this control panel go to control panel\administrative tools\services) This little tid bit should allow you to boost your PC performance somewhat. The major improvements will come with hardware upgrades especially increases in system memory (RAM). We have an entire free video set dedicated to speeding up your computer. You can watch these absolutely free right here. Feel free to leave me some of your ideas below in the comments section. I also highly recommend using The Bug Doctor. This software has thousands of common fixes built in and they will help you fix just about any computer problem via their helpdesk. Simply the best support team online.

Speed up access to data

idea posted by Deepak Kubal Media Coresspondent, Media House

Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk when the file is opened to piece it back together. The response time can be significantly longer.

Disk Defragmenter is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer's hard disk so that each occupies a single space on the disk. With your files stored neatly end-to-end, without fragmentation, reading and writing to the disk speeds up.

I use Advanced System Care Free version to clean the registry & remove temp files etc.

There other tools like SmartDefrag, etc which help in speeding up your computer.  When your system is slow check if it's bcoz of Hard disk (reading & writing), open task manager & identify the process which consumes max cpu & memory then take action to mitigate it.

Sumitra do one thing,

- right click on my computer

- click on properties

- go to advanced option

- click on settings of performance

- then click on advanced

- go to change of Virtual memory

- change initial size to round of figure lesser than actual

and change maximum size to round of figure greater than actual ..

that means increase the difference between two than actual..

this will definitely help a bit,

dont store anything on C drive or on the drive where system files are present

always defrag the computer after a fix period of 45 days,

delete all temporary files from C drive - documents and settings - your user name - temporary internet files - and recently used files,

use good virus scan preferably - quick heal, or the best one Kaspersky,
